The Chinese technology giant Huawei has come under online scrutiny after it was found that the company had performed devious marketing. Recently, Huawei unveiled its brand-new flagship luxury sedan called the Maextro S800. Now, in order to promote this vehicle, it ran a series of tests on this car and also pitted it against the Mercedes Maybach S680, which is currently one of the most prestigious luxury sedans on the market. However, it was then found that Huawei deliberately deflated the Maybach’s wheels to make it perform poorly.

Huawei deceiving viewers to promote its new luxury car

A video explaining all of the unethical tactics used by Huawei to promote its Maextro S800 has been shared on YouTube by China Observer on their channel. It starts off by explaining that recently, at the launch event of the Huawei Maextro S800, the company showcased a long video in which their sedan was compared with the flagship luxury sedan, the Mercedes Maybach S680.

There were a number of tests that were performed, including the gliding of these cars over shallow potholes with glass, water, and sand. It was noted that the Maextro S800 was able to drive over these obstacles without breaking the glass or disturbing the water and sand. However, the Maybach did the opposite. This was done to show that the Maextro S800 has a much superior air suspension than the Maybach S680.

Apart from these tests, both of these sedans were then subjected to dodging an obstacle on an icy road. The Mercedes was first shown attempting this test, and it was noted that it dodged the obstacle; however, it then lost control. But the Maextro S800, on the other hand, was able to maintain its stability. The same was also shown for an ice road climb, where the Maybach failed, but the Maextro S800 performed flawlessly.

The truth

Following these clips, the video highlights that it was found through a before-and-after shot of the Maybach vs. Maextro S800 that the engineers from Huawei were deflating the tires of the Maybach. It was highlighted that the Maybach was deliberately deflated to make it look lower, which would help Huawei in showing that its flagship sedan has a better stance and presence on the road.

Maybach was rented by deception

In the same video, it has also been revealed that Huawei rented this particular Mercedes Maybach S680 from a company to run a series of tests and compare it with their sedan. As per the video, the owner of this Maybach rented it to a company under the pretext of a movie shoot. However, the company that took the car provided it to Huawei for testing.

The owner of the Maybach mentioned that he did not give any permission to the company for any testing. Also, when he was returned his vehicle, it had a lot of damages. He highlighted that the front grille was broken, the alloy wheels were curbed, and there were other damages as well. And when he confronted the company to pay for the damages, he was denied any compensation.

Netizens' reactions

A number of netizens have stated that doing such devious marketing will not help Huawei in promoting its Maextro S800. They added that such unfair tests, instead of inspiring confidence among buyers, show that Huawei is not confident in its own product. At the moment, Mercedes has not officially released any statement challenging this unfair test.
