One of the most common modifications which people like to do on their vehicles in India is to add aftermarket alloy wheels. In most cases, adding these aftermarket alloy wheels enhances the overall appearance of the vehicles. However, there are a lot of people who add cheap alloy wheels which are only good for show and lack the structural integrity. Recently, showing how bad-quality alloy wheels can destroy a vehicle, a video of a crashed and flipped Hyundai i20 has been shared online.

Hyundai i20 aftermarket alloy wheel breaks, causing horrific crash

This video showing the Hyundai i20 with broken aftermarket alloy wheels has been shared on Instagram by Kuldeep Rao on their page. In this short video, we can first note the front side of a crashed Hyundai i20 which was half-flipped. Soon after this, the video shows this hatchback in the completely flipped-over state.

We can note that the front right-side alloy wheel of this hatchback was broken. Most likely, what happened was that this vehicle might have been on a turn when this alloy wheel broke and caused the vehicle to completely flip over. Now, whether the driver and the occupants of this vehicle were safe or not has not been mentioned.

In the video, we can observe that the remaining three alloy wheels were intact. Also, there were a number of people who stopped their vehicles to see what actually happened. Additionally, there were a few police officials as well who might have been called to the spot to check on the incident. The vehicle in the video is registered in Haryana. Now, where exactly this incident took place is unknown.

Not the first incident

This incident of a Hyundai i20 crashing after its aftermarket alloy wheel broke on the highway is not an isolated instance. There have been numerous cases in which alloy wheels have broken down during high speeds and have caused serious damage to vehicles. A little while ago, a video became viral on the internet in which the same thing happened with a Toyota Fortuner.

What was even worse about this particular incident was that this Toyota Fortuner, equipped with fake Mansory-style alloy wheels, rolled over six times after its wheel broke. In this incident, it was noted that the entire wheel came out of the hub. The main cause of this incident was the use of aftermarket alloy wheels made of cheap and brittle material.

Also, the owner had increased the size of the alloy wheels compared to the stock wheels. Prior to this, we also saw a Bentley Continental GT with broken alloy wheels as well. Thankfully, this particular Bentley was not being driven at high speeds, so it did not have a lot of damage.

As automotive enthusiasts, we completely understand that changing the wheels makes the vehicle look brand-new and adds a completely new appearance. However, it has to be mentioned that if you're opting for such wheels, please choose the best quality wheels. Make sure that, just to save a couple of thousand Rupees, you don't risk your life by opting for cheap alloy wheels.
