Make Hyundai Verna Produce 198 BHP With Just Rs. 40,000! [Video]
They say that the sedans are dying. There may be reasons to believe this claim, but there are more to dismiss the same. In a world dominated by wannabe SUVs and bizarrely beefed-up hatchbacks that tend to call themselves mini, micro and nano SUVs, sedans maybe less popular, but there are takers for them. The outgoing Hyundai Verna could be called the uncrowned king of its segment. Looks like it has just turned even more interesting. An owner has now tuned his 1.5 TGDi Verna Turbo into something that churns out 198 hp!
In a video shared on the channel Bhuvan Chowdhary, we get to see the host explain the details of this beefed-up sedan. He even gets a proper taste of its performance by driving it for some time.
The car in question seems to be from Bengaluru, but has KL number plate. The owner could have his native in Kerala. He seems to have swapped the car's stock 16-inch wheels with larger 17-inch Lenso wheels. The tyres also feature larger sections and stickier rubber, so that the reworked engine translates well into real driving pleasure.
What Is So Special About This Verna 1.5 TGDi?
To start with, the ECU of this Verna 1.5 TGDi has been unlocked and it now runs a stage-2 map by Wolf Moto Performance. This pushed the power output to 198 hp from the stock 156 hp- a gain of 42 horses! To sustain the additional horses, this Verna has been fitted with a larger intercooler as well.
An intercooler upgrade is not a must-have with stage 2 builds. However, having a larger intercooler will help a lot in keeping the engine properly cooled when the driver has 'rough fun' with the car. It thus helps in sustaining the added power safely for longer spans of time.
Pop the hood and most of the things underneath will look familiar and nearly stock. The only visible change would be the position of the ECU. It now sits at a more accessible place. The owner seems to be taking things slow with the build. He implements changes after getting thorough research done on the same.
He apparently has plans to swap more parts to boost performance. A set of downpipes could be the next big additions. A transition to a larger, more powerful turbocharger could also follow. This will likely take the power output to around 256 horses! It will then be a stage 3 build.
The YouTuber says that despite the modifications that have been done to it, this Verna 1.5 TGDi stays refined and smooth. The video also shows him driving the car. Insane acceleration can be seen in the second half of it. The engine feels very responsive and the car is quite fast.
Interestingly, the transmission here is a 6-speed manual unit! Yes, a 198hp manual sedan with a decent suspension setup- that's what we are talking about! The owner has for some reason, chosen to keep the suspension stock- could be because of the sweet balance between ride and handling that it offers.
