While Tata is known for making sturdy vehicles and offering a variety of electric vehicles in the market, there is one more thing that we often come across. Customers often face issues with modern Tata cars and report these issues to senior management when they realize that their concerns are not being resolved even after multiple visits.

Here, we have a video where the owner of a Tata Nexon EV took his car to an independent mechanic to get the errors and mode issues resolved. Did he get the issues resolved? Let’s watch the video to find out.

The video has been shared by Mukesh Chandra Gond on his YouTube channel. In this video, a 2024 model Tata Nexon EV has come to him with several error warnings for ESP, auto hold, and traction control glowing on the instrument cluster. The mechanic took the car for a test drive and found that the EV was not performing well. It was stuck in Eco mode, and the steering wheel of the vehicle was also not aligned.

The moment the mechanic took his hands off the steering wheel, the car started swerving to the left side. He opened the bonnet to inspect the vehicle and mentioned that this was the first time he was working on an EV.

High Voltage Is Very Risky

He started by saying that he was not going to fiddle with the high-voltage wires in the EV. He would only work with the 12V electrical system. He inspected the system and diagnosed the issues using a tool, but he was unable to clear the errors.

He then checked the alignment of the front wheels and found that the driver-side wheel was not installed properly. There was too much of a gap at the top, and it almost looked like the shock absorbers on the car were actually damaged.

He checked the underbody of the car and found more issues. He removed the wheel and started inspecting the shock absorber. He mentioned that the car had not even done 1,000 km on the odometer, and it looked like the car was given to the customer in this condition.

The mechanic initially thought there was a bend in the shock absorber, but he soon found out that this was not the issue. He then suspected a faulty knuckle. He took out the knuckle from the other side of the car and installed it to check the same.

He soon found the issue and replaced the faulty knuckle with a brand new one. After the knuckle was installed and the old shock absorber was put back in place, the tyre was reinstalled.

After this, the alignment issue was resolved. The mechanic ran a diagnostic tool and tried clearing all the faults. The errors that the car was earlier showing on the display started going away one after the other.

The mechanic mentioned that he had removed the accident disconnect fuse to avoid any kind of short circuits or mishaps during the repair. He installed the fuse back before running the tool.

By the time the issue was fixed, it was late, and the wheel alignment shop had also closed. So he did the wheel alignment manually, and when he finally drove the car on the road, he was really impressed with the results.

The car was switching between different drive modes, and all the errors were gone. It was performing well and picking up speed as expected.

Should You Do It?

Well, we would say no. The reason why a car as new as this was not taken to an authorized service center is not clear in the video. EV technology is still new in the country, and not many mechanics know how to work on one.

In this case, the mechanic was experienced, and the issue was more mechanical than related to the EV system itself. However, if you get your new vehicle serviced or repaired at an independent workshop and things go wrong, the vehicle’s warranty may become void.

This could actually do more harm than good, as the dealership and service center won’t take responsibility for the issues. Also, electric vehicles like the Nexon EV have several high-voltage wires, and if proper precautions are not taken, the mechanic can get an electric shock and injure himself.
