India’s First Tata Sumo 4X4 Caravan Is Here [Video]

The Tata Sumo is one of those SUVs that helped India transform mobility. This SUV was named to honor Sumant Moolgaokar, the former Managing Director of Tata Motors (then called Tata Engineering and Locomotive Co. Ltd., or TELCO). The Sumo was generally used as a people mover; however, recently, a travel enthusiast managed to convert his old Sumo 4X4 into a dream cross-country caravan. A video showing this unique Tata Sumo 4X4 camper has been shared online.
An in-depth video walkaround of this Tata Sumo 4X4 has been shared on YouTube by First Indian Camper on their channel. It starts with the vlogger showing the completely stripped-down Sumo. He mentions that he will be going on a trip to Spiti Valley, and for this adventure, he wanted to create something unique.
He then shows the capabilities of the Sumo on the ground near his workshop. Following this, he drops off his Sumo at the shop, and in the middle, he gives an update on the work done. He mentions that they have started the pine woodwork on his SUV and that the floorboard has been added.
Following this, he then directly jumps to the scene at Spiti Valley with his fully completed Sumo camper. The vlogger starts by mentioning that his inspiration for this project was the old Land Rover overland vehicles, which foreigners used to bring to India.
He added that he wanted to create something similar but on a vehicle like the Sumo, which was very underrated. After this, he then starts giving a detailed walkaround of his finished Sumo. At the front, he mentions that he has added a metal bumper with tow hooks.
The vlogger states that he will later add an off-road-specific metal bumper to increase the approach angle. Next up, he shows the old Land Rover Defender-styled front grille, additional fog lights, a light bar on top, and parking lights on the roof.
Following this, he then shows the side profile of the vehicle. He mentions that he has added bigger all-terrain tires, and there is also an awning on the side. Next up, he shows the metal cage grille on the side profile of the rear windows.
After giving a brief tour of the exterior, the vlogger then shows the main highlight of this vehicle, which is its interior. He mentions that the SUV has been given a complete pine wood headliner along with pine wood on the rear panels.
At the front, he shows the aftermarket Android infotainment screen, the driver seat from an Innova, and two extra seats for his wife and kids. He then shows the lights and fans added at the front. The vlogger states that they have currently painted the rough plastic panels of the dashboard.
However, later they will be finished in leather as they do not feel good. Finally, he then starts showing the rear section of this camper build. The vlogger states that they have created a number of custom storage units underneath the bed, which help them store supplies for food, sleeping, and other utilities.
The vlogger highlights that they have also added a kitchen setup with a proper LPG gas stove. He also adds that they have a fridge and an inverter. Apart from this, the vehicle also gets a solar panel and a 60-liter water tank on the roof. He explains that his wife and kids sleep in the vehicle, while he sleeps in the rooftop tent they have added on top.
