We have seen people in the past with a passion for cars and driving. In some cases, people love their cars so much that they take care of them and use them extensively. In India, we have seen people who own Toyota cars with lakhs of kilometers on the odometer without any major issues. Other than Toyota, Japanese car manufacturer Honda is also known to make reliable cars. Here we have an Indian from Canada who drove his Honda Accord V6 for 10 lakh kilometers and now wants Honda to update the odometer as the digits are stuck at 1 million kilometers.

Arun Ghosh with his Accord V6

Arun Ghosh shifted to Canada for his higher studies and a better standard of living from Kerala’s Cherthala back in 2017. Like most of us, Arun also dreamed of owning his dream car, which in this case was a Honda Accord V6.

Honda did offer the V6 variant of the Accord in India for some time. It was not the most efficient car, but many enthusiasts found it interesting, and even today, we have a few well-kept or modified examples of the Honda Accord in India.

Thirty-eight-year-old Arun Ghosh, who lives in Ontario, is passionate about driving. He moved to Canada as an international student at Niagara College in 2017. He bought the Honda Accord V6 with 90,000 kilometers on it. Ghosh is so passionate about his car that when he goes to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, he prefers to drive instead of walking.

Odometer reading stuck at 9,99,999 km

He was a nurse in India, but currently works as a delivery and rideshare driver. He hopes to get into the automobile industry soon. He also offers lifts to international students at the price of gas. All this helps him in adding more kilometers to the odometer. His friends encouraged him to drive the car even more when he hit the 500,000 kilometers mark.

Since then, he has been aiming to achieve the magical number. On July 30, Arun Ghosh, along with his friends, set out on a trip when he was only 100 kilometers short of his goal. The trip started near the Peace Bridge, at the U.S. border. He drove the car with the hope that the odometer reading would soon hit the 1,000,000 kilometers mark.

However, things didn’t go as planned. The odometer reading, instead of showing the 1,000,000 kilometers mark, only shows 999,999. The instrument cluster is stuck at this mark, and Arun Ghosh is disappointed. Ghosh has now appealed to Honda to help him with a custom seven-digit instrument cluster where he can easily log his 1,000,000 kilometers achievement. He also plans to add more to the odometer reading by driving it even more.

A local Honda dealership is currently looking at options and possibilities to help Ghosh. When compared to an average Canadian, Ghosh is driving six times more. Carfax Canada said on their website that an average Canadian drives about 20,000 kilometers per year. Ghosh’s average is way more than anyone else at 130,000 kilometers every year.

Arun maintains his car pretty well. The sedan uses all original parts and still runs on the original transmission. The engine, however, is new. As mentioned above, this was not the most fuel-efficient car in its segment. However, Ghosh has no plans to upgrade to a bigger or more modern car. He loves his car so much that he says it feels like floating on the road when he is driving the Accord.
