One of the most impressive things in the United States of America is the Waymo driverless taxi service. Waymo, like Ola Cabs and Uber, is a ride-hailing app; however, it only employs driverless cars equipped with a ton of sensors. Riders can book these driverless cabs and go around the city like a normal cab service. Recently, a woman influencer took her parents for a ride in a Waymo driverless taxi, and she has now shared their candid reactions to this unique service.

The video showing the parents' reaction to the Waymo driverless taxi has been shared on Instagram by Apurva Bendre on her page. It starts off with the vlogger mentioning that she is extremely excited to take her parents for a ride in the driverless taxi. Following this, the video shows two white-colored Waymo Jaguar I-Pace cabs coming in front of the influencer and her parents.

Soon after this, the woman sat inside the car and pressed the “Start Ride” button on the touchscreen infotainment system of the Waymo cab. Following this, she panned the camera to show herself sitting in the front passenger seat and also the driverless driver’s seat. We can note that the steering of this vehicle was turning by itself using the sensors and cameras which guide it to drive on public roads.

Soon after this, the video shows the girl sitting in the rear seat between her parents. All of them were waving at the camera. We can note that both her parents were in complete awe after seeing this cab driving without a driver. The clip then shows the beautiful views of San Francisco, California, with steep hills and homes on the side of the roads.

For those who may not be aware of Waymo One, it is the world's first fully autonomous ride-hailing service—available 24/7 in several U.S. cities, including Phoenix, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. It is also available via Uber partnership in Austin and Atlanta. Additionally, it will be rolling out soon in Washington, DC, Miami, Dallas, and also in Tokyo, Japan.

Riders can download the Waymo One application to book rides in the driverless taxi. They can also (in some cities) use Uber to book Waymo One cabs as well. Waymo initially utilized Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid cars; however, it has now transitioned to a fully electric fleet featuring Jaguar I-Pace and Hyundai Ioniq 5 models.

Waymo driverless cabs use a lot of sophisticated technology to drive around cities without any human driver. They use a multi-layered sensor system for a 360° view of their surroundings, including LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) on top of the car, high-resolution cameras placed around the vehicle, and radar along with ultrasonic sensors.

In addition to this hardware, Waymo also utilizes deep learning and neural networks trained on billions of miles of real-world and simulated driving data. Its AI classifies objects (car, truck, pedestrian, cyclist, traffic cone, etc.) and predicts their behavior. Additionally, it also understands complex urban scenarios like unprotected left turns, four-way stops, pedestrians jaywalking, or cyclists swerving.
