Toyota Hilux is an underrated pickup truck. Despite being an off-road capable pickup truck, not many units are sold every month. Recently, an Indian YouTuber explained why he bought the Hilux over a Mahindra Thar ROXX on video and the same underlines why the Hilux deserves more sales.

In the video shared on the channel Small Town Rider, shows the host talking about buying the Hilux. He explains why he bought it from Gujarat, despite living in Jammu. He also talks about how much discount he could avail on his purchase of the Toyota truck. The Hilux has been selling with huge discounts recently, and this YouTuber seems to have availed the same.

The host explains why he chose the Hilux over the ROXX. He says that the first reason was that the 5-door Thar ROXX has become too common. A lot of people have already bought it. The Hilux, on the other hand, is less common and more unique. Plus, the host himself is a fan of Toyota and the Fortuner is already on his wish list. However, it was ‘beyond his budget’ this time and the Hilux thus made for a sweet mid-spot. Plus, he wanted a vehicle which he could use to explore off-roading and the Hilux pulls a rank over the ROXX here.

The Hilux is, however, not the first pickup truck that this YouTuber has owned. He used to own an Isuzu D Max V Cross before. Availing the biggest possible discounts and benefits was also on his ‘to-do’ list. He started hunting for the biggest offers across India. However, most dealers quoted around 12-13 lakh.

Instead of buying from a Toyota dealership, this YouTuber relied on a third-party broker to source a better deal. He says that he could save an additional 1.5 lakh even though he had to pay 50,000 to the middleman in brokerage. Soon after buying the truck, the host did a road trip from Gujarat to Jammu and seems to have enjoyed the same.

Another thing to note here is that he hasn’t registered the vehicle yet. It is still running on temporary number plates. He says that he would be able to register the truck and pay for the registration charges with the money he makes from the YouTube channel in the next few months. He further says that he has huge plans for the new Hilux and plans to use it as his daily vehicle.

Toyota Hilux: Quick Look At It

The Toyota Hilux was launched in India in March 2022. At launch, it was priced from Rs 33.99 lakh for the Standard MT trim. The top-spec variant would have set you back by Rs 36.80 lakh. These prices saw a slight hike over the years, before massive price cuts were announced on the vehicle.

The Hilux is underpinned by the same IMV platform as the Innova and the Fortuner. Powering it is Toyota’s 2.8-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that also does duty on the Fortuner and Legender. Even the state of tune is identical and it produces 204hp and 420Nm (500Nm on automatic variants). Like the Fortuner, the Hilux also offers the choice of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearboxes.

The Fortuner, however, comes in both 4×2 and 4×4 configurations. The lifestyle pickup, however, is available in the 4×4 configuration alone. It also gets a low-range gearbox, and front and rear electronic differential locks and has a water wading capacity of 700 mm.
