India's 10 Most Expensive Car Registration Numbers: From Lamborghini To Rolls Royce Cullinan

The craze for fancy registration numbers is not a new one. There have been many people who have now started spending a ton of money on their favourite numbers. This is generally done to flaunt wealth and power. Recently, the registration number “0007” in Kerala went on auction for Rs 45.99 lakh. This then made us think: what are the other most expensive numbers sold in auctions in India? So today, we are bringing to you the list of the 10 most expensive registration numbers in India.
First off, let's start with the most recent number plate auction, which has also become the most expensive number plate officially sold by the authorities. This particular number is “KL 07 DG 0007.” It has been bought by Venu Gopalakrishnan, founder of Litmus7 IT company from Kochi, Kerala. The “0007” bought by the multimillionaire has set a record in Kerala.
He has bought this registration number for his newly bought Lamborghini Urus Performante. This particular vehicle starts at Rs 4.22 crore. Powering this beast of an SUV is a massive 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, which makes 666 PS of power and 850 Nm of torque. 0–100 kmph happens in just 3.3 seconds.
The second most expensive number plate to be auctioned off in India is also “0007.” However, this particular one was bought for Rs 34 lakh. And instead of using it on an expensive luxury vehicle, the owner of this number, who is a huge James Bond fan, bought it for his Toyota Fortuner. At the time when he bought this number plate, the price of the Fortuner was Rs 30 lakh.
Porsche Boxster - Rs 31 lakh
Another wealthy businessman, K.S. Balagopal from Kerala, bought the third most expensive registration number in India. This man paid Rs 31 lakh for the number “KL 01 CK 0001.” It was for his Porsche 718 Boxster, which was priced at Rs 90 lakh when the owner bought this car.
So far—and ahead as well on this list—most of the expensive registration numbers are 0001 or 0007. However, a businessman from Telangana paid around Rs 25.5 lakh for the registration number “TN 09 9999,” then proceeded to use it on his Rs 2.1 crore Land Cruiser LC300 luxury SUV.
In addition to the “KL 07 DG 0007” bought by the Litmus7 founder, on the same day, “KL 07 DG 0001” also got sold in the Kerala MVD auction for Rs 25.52 lakh. Now, who bought this registration number and for which vehicle has not been made public.
The owner of the Porsche 718 Boxster mentioned above is also the owner of a Toyota Land Cruiser LC200. For this vehicle, he bought the registration number 0001 for Rs 18 lakh. When exactly he bought this number is not known.
Another Toyota Land Cruiser LC200 owner from Chandigarh also bought the 0001 registration number for Rs 17 lakh. This number, “CH 01 AN 0001,” was bought for the LC200; however, presently this number has been transferred to a Ford Endeavour.
Rahul Taneja, a successful business owner from Jaipur, back in the day made headlines for buying the registration number “RJ 45 CG 0001.” At the time, he paid Rs 16 lakh for this number, which was used on his Jaguar XJL luxury sedan. What makes this purchase even more special is that Taneja started off his career as an autorickshaw driver.
This is one of the very few lists in which the billionaire Mukesh Ambani has been positioned so low. The registration number 0001 was bought by the Ambani family for Anant Ambani's Rolls Royce Cullinan for Rs 12 lakh. The special part about this particular Cullinan is that Rs 1 crore was paid for the special Tuscan Sun Yellow paint job with a brushed silver bonnet.
Last but not least, Rahul Taneja mentioned above also paid Rs 10.31 lakh for the registration number “RJ 14 CP 0001.” It was initially used on his BMW 5-Series but was then transferred to the 7-Series he bought later on.
