Inox Managing Director Becomes India's First Business Tycoon To Buy Tesla Model Y

Earlier in July of this year, the American electric automotive giant Tesla Inc. launched its first vehicle, the Model Y, in India. After which, it delivered the first Model Y to Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik. Now, recently the Managing Director of Inox Group – Siddharth Jain – has also taken delivery of his Tesla Model Y, making him the first business tycoon to buy it.

The image of the Tesla Model Y after delivery has been shared on X by Siddharth Jain on his X profile. In the image, the Executive Director of Inox Group was seen sitting on the bonnet of this electric SUV with a big, gleaming smile. In his post, Jain tagged billionaire Elon Musk, who is the CEO of Tesla Inc., stating that he has bought one because of him.

Jain also highlighted in his post that he had been waiting for this precious moment for a long time. He added that he visited the Tesla factory in Fremont, California, and had been waiting to get his hands on one since then. Jain added, “Dreams do come true!”

As mentioned above, the first Tesla Model Y delivery took place earlier this month on 4th September. This particular Model Y was handed over to Pratap Sarnaik, who is the Transport Minister in the current government of Maharashtra. He stated that this vehicle is a gift from him to his grandson. Sarnaik added that he wants green mobility with this move.

After years of delay, Tesla finally entered the Indian automotive market with the Model Y. Many believed that it would first launch the most affordable vehicle, the Model 3, in India. However, it has launched the Model Y with a starting price tag of Rs 59.89 lakh.

Tesla has launched two variants of the Model Y in India. The first is the Rear-Wheel Drive variant, priced at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). As for the on-road price in Mumbai, it is Rs 61.07 lakh. The other, and more expensive variant, is the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive variant.

The LR RWD is priced at Rs 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom), and its on-road price in Mumbai is Rs 69.15 lakh. As for the powertrain options, there are two variants. The first is the Rear-Wheel Drive variant, which comes with a single electric motor making 299 PS of power and 420 Nm of torque.

It gets a 60.5 kWh battery pack, offering a claimed range of 500 km on a single full charge. It will be able to perform a sprint from 0–100 kmph in just 5.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 201 kmph. As for the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive variant, it is offered with a single electric motor.

However, it makes 340 PS of power and 450 Nm of torque. What makes it more expensive is the bigger 75 kWh battery pack, which offers a claimed range of 622 km. In India, the Tesla Model Y competes with the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Volvo XC40 Recharge.
