Woman In Saree Rides Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Without Helmet And Films Instagram Reel

Let's admit it- we have all had respect for women riding motorcycles, especially the big bikes. Motorcycling has always been a male-dominated space, and seeing capable women ride responsibly makes us feel good. With the advent of content creation and social media, we get to see women capitalising on this and rising to fame overnight. However, not all of them adhere to safe and responsible riding practices at all times. Shama Pawar, who goes by the name Supersonic Shama on Instagram is an example. She has a Royal Enfield Super Meteor and creates content with it. In most of her videos, she is seen riding the motorcycle without a helmet or proper riding gear.
Women riding motorcycles in sarees has been a recent trend on Instagram, and this creator seems to have jumped on the bandwagon as well. Most of her recent videos show Shama riding the Super Meteor wearing a saree and with full 'desi swag'. Most of these videos have amassed massive viewership on Instagram, despite being highly unsafe. This creator has been doubling down on the trend, and a recent video even shows her riding through a busy road (supposedly in Pune) with traffic around, without wearing a helmet or any protective gear.
She seems to be riding on the right lane, at a speed that might be slow for the 'fast lane'. The video of the same is being filmed from the boot of a car that's in front of her. It is evident from the reel that the motorcycle and the filming crew are causing inconvenience to the vehicles around. In India, filming from a moving vehicle on public roads and causing inconvenience to others is illegal, unless the crew has obtained special permissions from the authorities to do so.
Previously, the Kerala MVD had taken strict action against people who were seen filming a BMW from the boot of a moving Maruti Baleno, on Kochi's Seaport-Airport road.
Circling back to the Super Meteor rider, the Instagram handle has more videos which could be potential violations of Motor vehicle rules and lane laws. In one of them, we see her riding through the left lane of a one-way, with both hands off the handlebar.
The Super Meteor is a powerful motorcycle. Its 648cc engine produces 47hp and 52Nm, and has a different airbox and exhaust system compared to other 650 models. The cruiser has a distinct character to its performance and is quite heavy at 241 kilograms. Careless riding such as this, could potentially lead to crashes, in the event of which, the rider could get hurt badly.
The reel has gone viral and we see people show up with different comments. Some seem to be impressed by the lady's aura and style. On the other hand, many questioned the irresponsible riding behaviour. "You think it’s cool ?? Riding in the middle of the road without helmet! Please give good message to the community!" reads a comment. Influencers doing irresponsible riding stands more serious than others doing it as many tend to be lured by the same, and may even try to imitate.
While social media and its flair can be tempting, creating content that depicts or indirectly advocates irresponsible riding practices should be stopped. Being a responsible influencer is as important as being a successful one. Every creator is in some way, setting an example or being a reference point to someone. They are in a way shaping a community.
