How Indian Man Went From Janitor To Owning 4 Hyundai Dealerships: Inspiring Story [Video]

We have come across several rags-to-riches stories both in India and abroad. In all these stories, hard work and dedication play a crucial role. Apart from that, these individuals were at the right place at the right time. Here, we have one such video of an Indian Sikh who went from being a janitor to the owner of multiple Hyundai dealerships.
The video has been shared by George Saliba on his Instagram page. In this video, the vlogger talks to Mr. Nav Bhatia, who currently owns multiple Hyundai dealerships in Canada. He talks about how he got into the car business. Nav Bhatia moved to Canada back in 1984. He was a mechanical engineer by qualification but when he moved to Canada, nobody wanted to hire him.
It had more to do with his appearance, as no one wanted people with turbans and long beards working for them during that time. So he couldn’t find a job and started working as a janitor. In the video, he mentions that he was proud of what he did and he doesn’t regret working as a janitor either.
He was passionate about the work, and he even mentioned that he used to get praised by people for his cleaning. After working as a janitor, he picked up a job as a painter, and some time after that, he got in touch with a Hyundai dealership that was then called Mexican Hyundai.
He went for an interview and got a job there as a salesman. He came to Canada after the Sikh riots in India, and when he joined work, his colleagues made fun of him, which he still remembers and calls the lowest day of his life in Canada.
He then started working hard and in the next three months, he sold around 127 cars. It is still an unbeatable record in the history of the dealership. From there, he was promoted to manager and general manager positions. Then another dealership hired him to improve their sales.
By then, Nav Bhatia had started making money, and he bought Mexican Hyundai, which was later renamed Rexdale Hyundai.
The president of the dealership asked him to take over as they were going to shut operations. He bought these dealerships and turned them into successful businesses.
He mentions that he usually buys failing dealerships and turns them around into profitable ones. He also talks about how he treats his employees and customers. He mentions that he never puts too much pressure on customers when they come in for services. He ensures that his team informs the customer about the issues and lets the customer take the final decision.
This way, the customer stays happy and comes back as he feels he was not ripped off or cheated. He also asks his employees to make sure they take the customer’s signature in case the customer is not willing to go ahead with any replacement that is critical for the functioning of the car. This way, the dealership stays out of trouble in case the car malfunctions.
