JSW MG Motor India during the launch of their new EV Windsor had announced that they’ll be offering free unlimited charging for 1 year to its customers who took delivery of the car before 31 December 2024. However, it looks like MG has now decided to change the terms and conditions of this scheme and broke their promise.

MG updates free charging scheme

JSW MG Motor India has now revised the terms and conditions of the unlimited charging scheme. As per the updated scheme terms, the manufacturer is limiting the charging to 1,000 units or 1,000 kWh which is valid for 12 months or an year. Anyone who has bought the Windsor EV last year and has used 1,000 units will find themselves in trouble as they would have pay for charging the car in future.

However, if you have not used 1,000 units, then you can use the free charging setup till you hit the 1,000 units mark. 1,000 units is an extremely low number as an MG Windsor has a claimed driving range of 331 km on full charge. This would translate to a real-world range of around 250-275 km. If you go by this calculation, the EV will return around 6.5 kms per unit of charge and that is pretty low. If you calculate it with the 1,000 unit you get 6,500 km.

This means, MG wants its customer to drive only for 6,500 km a year. This is again a very low number. Ideally MG shouldn’t have made these changes to the free charging scheme as it would damage the image of the brand as there are many customers who bought the Windsor EV so fast to benefit from the unlimited charging scheme. MG has in a way broken their trust. If MG had to change the scheme, they should have offered anywhere between 2,000 to 2,500 units as that would have been more than sufficient for most customers.

MG Windsor EV

Windsor EV is a very unique looking product from the manufacturer. It is actually a rebadged version of Wuling Air that is available internationally. It gets a very rounded and bulky design and MG likes to call it CUV. In terms of design, there is a sleek looking LED DRL and a connecting light bar that runs across the width of the car.

Even the MG logo below it is illuminated. The LED headlamps are placed on the bumper and there is an airdam on the lower part of the bumper. It is a large EV and it offers extremely spacious cabin and premium features for its price tag. The main highlight of the interior of the new MG Windsor EV is its 135-degree reclining rear seats, which the company has named Aero Lounge. These seats, unlike standard leather seats, have a sofa-like design.

15.6 inch large touchscreen infotainment system, segment-first 256-color LED ambient lighting setup, fully digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, panoramic glass roof are some of the other premium features.

MG Windsor EV is available with 38 kWh battery pack option only. It is mated to an electric motor that generates 136 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. The EV has a claimed range of 331 km and prices for this EV start at Rs 14 lakh, ex-showroom with the battery pack
