Actor Kamal Haasan Still Owns 75-Year Old Matchless Vintage Motorcycle: Keeps It In His Office

A lot of popular celebrities and business tycoons love to keep their first bike or car with them. A lot of times, they get them restored to their original factory specifications to make sure that they can hold on to them, as they have a lot of memories attached to them. Recently, we came across a few images of the popular Tamil actor Kamal Haasan’s old 1951 Matchless G3LS motorcycle. This particular motorcycle was restored by the actor, and it is kept in his office.
The images of Kamal Haasan's 1951 Matchless G3LS motorcycle have been shared on Facebook by Old Madras Motorcycles on their page. In the post, we can see Kamal Haasan posing with his motorcycle at his office. This bike is currently finished in black color. However, it was originally finished in Colonial Brown color. This particular motorcycle was bought by the actor back when he was young.
He used this motorcycle during his younger days and also in a number of movies that he has worked in. Currently, it resides in his office in pristine condition. One of the netizens in the post had mentioned that an enquiry was made for the restoration of this particular 1951 Matchless G3LS when it was still in Colonial Brown color. However, the deal did not materialize, and the bike was then changed to black color.
Over the years, Kamal Haasan has shared his love for his motorcycle, which he bought in the early days of his career. This bike has stayed with him for decades, and he has described it as his “love affair” and a symbol of his passion for machines and nostalgia. For those who may not be aware, Kamal Haasan's bike is a 1951 Matchless G3LS.
This bike was originally developed for the British Army during WWII. However, post-war civilian models retained many rugged features. It came with a teardrop fuel tank, exposed engine components, upright seating position, and minimalistic bodywork. Powering this motorcycle was a 348cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke engine, which made around 16–18 bhp and could reach a top speed of 112–120 kmph.
The 70-year-old Tamil actor will be seen in the soon-to-be-released “Thuglife.” Kamal Haasan will be starring in this movie alongside Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan, Sanya Malhotra, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf, and Baburaj. Kamal Haasan is also the co-writer of this movie. As for the music, it has been directed by legendary music director A. R. Rahman.
Kamal Haasan is not the only legendary actor who has kept his old vehicle with him. The super popular veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra also still owns his Fiat 1100, which is finished in a lovely shade of greenish brown. He purchased this car for Rs 18,000 back in 1960. This vehicle is currently in pristine condition, and most likely, it was restored at some point.
Apart from Dharmendra, the popular Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff, or “Jaggu Dada,” also owns a Fiat 1100. His vehicle is finished in silver color and has been meticulously restored. He is often seen in this vehicle attending Bollywood parties.
