Imagine you break a traffic law in one state, and then you get punished for that in another state. That'd be surprising, right? Well, this is exactly what recently happened to a driver from the state of Karnataka who broke a traffic law in the state of Goa and was then punished for it in Kerala. This driver was mandated by Kerala’s Kasaragod RTO to undergo a 5-day Crash Protection Course (CPC) at the Institute of Driver Training and Research (IDTR), Malappuram.

Broke law in one state, punished by another

This particular experience was shared by a driver on Team BHP's forum. The driver started sharing his experience by mentioning that back on 10th January 2025, he committed a traffic rule violation while driving a rented Maruti Suzuki Swift. As a result of this, a challan was issued in his name and was linked to his driver's licence.

Following this, in April of this year, he was presented a notice by Kerala's Kasaragod RTO. In the notice, the authorities threatened to suspend his driving licence unless he appeared in person. After which, the driver reached the RTO office, and during the visit, his driving licence was seized by the authorities.

Forced to join CPC at IDTR

Soon after this happened, the driver immediately registered for the compliance process and began his training. In his post, the driver has highlighted that the registration and course fee is Rs 5,000. Additionally, there is an option to stay at the hostel for Rs 2,500, which includes food and accommodation. The driver enrolled for this course on 12th May and was there till 16th May.

As per the post, the driver had to submit his driving licence, Aadhaar, and the RTO notice which he received. Additionally, mobile phones were not allowed to be used on the premises except during lunchtime. He added that in his batch, there were a total of 47 participants who were charged with offences such as drink and drive, overspeeding, accidents, and goods overloading.
