Popular actor and comedian Krushna Abhishek had a memorable birthday this year, all thanks to his wife Kashmera Shah. Instead of buying him a present, Kashmera did something that left him both shocked and amused — she gifted herself a brand-new BYD Seal electric sedan. Krushna, known for his sense of humor, quipped, “Electric car leke mujhe electric shock de diya!” meaning 'Gave me an electric shock by buying an electric car'. Kashmera has thus become the first one from B-town to own the Seal.

In a video shared on the Instagram handle of Landmark BYD, the EV manufacturer's dealer partner in Mumbai, we get to see the couple entering the showroom with their twin sons. It indeed looks like a joyous moment, and the family checks out their new electric car. In the beginning of the video, the Seal is under a Red veil, and surrounded by balloons. The family is seen uncovering it, together.

The family then celebrates the occasion by cutting a cake. Abhishek cuts it and shares it with his wife and children. In a funny twist, Kashmera finds out that the cake only had her name on it. “They forgot to write Abhishek’s name,” she comments playfully.

Next, they check out the car in detail. Interestingly, Kashmera can be seen placing a tiny Ganesha in the EV's frunk (which has a 50L capacity) and seeking its blessings! She further does aarti to the car as well. Finally, Krushna is seen breaking a coconut before the car. The family then receives special hampers from BYD and completes the paperwork.

The dealer staff is then seen giving basic induction to the family, explaining the Seal's features and technology in detail. Finally, the comedian and his family receive the keys to their new electric sedan and drive out of the dealership.

Krushna and Kashmera are now appearing together on Laughter Chefs 2, and are both having good times with their respective careers. This further ramps up excitement around this car shopping...

BYD launched the Seal in India in March 2024. It comes with two battery options — 61.44 kWh and 82.56 kWh — both using BYD's blade cell technology.

The smaller unit comes paired to a rear-motor setup. It makes 204 hp and 310 Nm of torque, and has a claimed range of 510 km.

The larger 82.56 kWh battery is offered with both RWD and AWD options. The RWD version produces 312 hp and 360 Nm and can go 650 km on a single charge. The AWD version gets a dual-motor setup that produces 530 hp and 670 Nm, and is claimed to deliver 580 km of range. This top-spec variant can do 0-100 kph in 3.8 seconds.

The Seal can fast-charge at up to 150 kW — going from 10% to 80% in just 37 minutes. The 11 kW AC charger will take 8.6 hours for a full charge. The car also supports V2L (Vehicle to Load) tech for powering devices on the go.

The sedan is 4,800 mm long, 1,875 mm wide, and 1,460 mm tall. Its design takes inspiration from the Ocean X concept and follows BYD’s “Ocean Aesthetics” design philosophy. Key highlights include a coupe-like glass roof, flush-fitting door handles, boomerang-shaped DRLs, swept-back headlights, and a full-width LED light bar at the rear. It rides on 19-inch petal-style alloy wheels.

The cabin looks premium with a rotating 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. It also comes with a head-up displaym, crystal toggle shifter, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, seat ventilation, 360-degree camera, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) 8-way power-adjustable front seats, physical controls, and wireless charging pads.

At the time of writing this article, the Seal is priced in the range of 41- 53.15 lakh rupees, ex-showroom. It competes with the likes of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6.
