Festive season is almost here and so have the celebrations. In Kerala, people have started preparations for Onam, and schools, colleges, and offices have begun celebrating the festival. Every year, people try to take these celebrations to the next level and make them better than the previous year. Here we have one such video where an Onam celebration in a college became the talk of the town after Mahabali arrived at the college in a helicopter.

The video has been shared by several social media pages on Instagram and other platforms. In this video, we see a group of college students gathered on the ground as part of the Onam celebration. They are wearing traditional dress and were eagerly waiting for Mahabali to arrive.

The video is from GEMS College in Ramapuram, Malappuram, Kerala. In the video, we see a helicopter hovering over the college. There is a helipad in the middle of the playground, and the chopper was aiming for it. Usually, we have seen Mahabali arriving in expensive cars and bikes. This is probably the first time we are seeing Mahabali arrive in a helicopter.

Hiring a chopper in India is not easy, and it is also not the most affordable thing to do. There are only a limited number of firms that offer such services. The helicopter slowly lands on the helipad on the ground, and once it stops, the pilot jumps out of his seat and slides open the rear doors for the person dressed as Mahabali.

For those who are not aware, Onam is an annual harvest festival in Kerala that celebrates the return of the benevolent Asura (demon) king Mahabali to visit his people on Earth. According to legend, after Mahabali’s reign over the three worlds, Lord Vishnu, in his Vamana (dwarf) form, tricked Mahabali into agreeing to give him three paces of land. Vamana grew to cover the sky and earth with his first two steps, and Mahabali, to honor his word, offered his own head for the third step, which sent him to the netherworld. Impressed by Mahabali’s sacrifice and humility, Vishnu granted him permission to visit his kingdom and people once a year during the Onam festival.

So Mahabali is an integral part of this celebration. In another video posted from the same college, we also see students arriving in expensive cars and bikes, and it looks like some celebrities were also invited to be part of the function.

This was definitely a unique video of Onam celebrations, and we assume they would have spent a large amount just on hiring the helicopter for the grand entry of the king. The helicopter seen in the video looks like an AgustaWestland AW109.

It is a lightweight, twin-engine, eight-seat, multi-purpose helicopter designed and initially produced by the Italian rotorcraft manufacturer Agusta. It was the first all-Italian helicopter to be mass-produced. Many wealthy Indian businessmen own this helicopter, and we have seen several videos of the same online. One of these helicopters would easily cost over 30 crore.
