Helmet-less Two-Wheeler Rider Jumping Traffic Signal Crashes Into Car: Dashcam Video

Bikers often pose a threat on our roads. It is not uncommon to find two-wheeler riders breaking rules and putting their lives at risk. We now have surveillance cameras in many parts of the city, but even that is not stopping them from violating rules. Such irresponsible behavior often leads to accidents, and we have several examples that prove the same. Here, we have one such video where a two-wheeler rider and a pillion passenger crash into an oncoming car while trying to jump a traffic signal.
The video has been shared by Thirdeye on their X profile. The accident happened in Kerala, though the exact location is not known. The video was recorded by the dashcam of a car involved in the crash. The dashcam car was passing through a four-lane road. The driver was maintaining a normal speed and slowed down as he spotted an intersection with the signal turning red for vehicles turning right.
The dashcam car was going straight, and for him, the signal was green. The car driver continued to drive, and just as he crossed the traffic signal, a biker jumped in front of his car from the right side. The biker had jumped the traffic signal, and he was not alone. We also see an old woman sitting on the pillion seat of the bike.
The car driver had no time to slow down as the biker suddenly came in front of the car. The car crashed into the bike, and both the rider and the pillion were thrown off. The car driver stopped, and then we see the rider. Locals gathered around almost immediately and started helping the rider and pillion.
In this case, the biker is clearly at fault. He was not only jumping the traffic signal, but he was also not wearing a helmet. Kerala is one of those states with over 700 AI cameras installed on national and state highways. This has been done to reduce the number of accidents and traffic violations.
However, it looks like some people have no fear of the system. The biker was clearly putting his own life, along with the lives of other road users, at risk by jumping a traffic signal. There is no audio in this video. We hope that both the rider and pillion on the bike escaped the accident with only minor injuries. It looks like the spot where this accident happened does not have any cameras, as many riders are seen jumping the signal in a similar manner. Always wear a helmet while riding, and we urge both the rider and pillion to wear one, as it protects you from head injuries.
The video has gone viral, and the post mentions that the cops have taken necessary action against the rider. Usually, Kerala Police and the Transport Department are very strict and take action against offenders in such cases. In this case, the biker is said to have been charged under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This section deals with driving or riding on a public way so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life, etc. Punishment includes imprisonment for six months, a fine of ₹1,000, or both.
