Volkswagen launched the Golf GTI in India a few weeks ago, and the manufacturer had mentioned that the first lot of the cars had already been sold out. The cars have started arriving at dealerships, and deliveries for the same have also begun. While there are enthusiasts across the country who are picking up their dream hot hatch, the scene in Kerala is slightly different. Apart from the usual car enthusiasts, a bunch of actors have shown interest in the Golf GTI and have taken delivery of the same.

Several videos of Volkswagen Golf GTI deliveries in Kerala are circulating online. In one of the videos posted by a user, we see actor Jayasurya taking delivery of his brand-new Golf GTI from a Volkswagen dealership in Kerala. From the video and the images available online, it looks like the actor bought the car in the Moonstone Grey Black shade.

While we only have a video of Jayasurya taking delivery, there is another video that shows a Volkswagen dealership delivering 25 cars at once during an event. As per reports circulating online, some of these cars belong to popular actors from the Malayalam film industry.

Malayalam film actors like Fahadh Faasil, Joju George, and megastar Mammootty are said to have bought the new Golf GTI. Mammootty already owns the older generation GTI that was previously sold in India. Even Madhav Suresh, who is the son of the popular actor and Member of Parliament Suresh Gopi also bought a brand new Golf GTI in the Grey shde. We hope to see clearer pictures and videos of these cars in the coming weeks.

A total of 150 cars were initially brought to India, and a small state like Kerala has already managed to buy over 25 of them. This shows the sentiments of customers from Kerala towards Volkswagen brand. Kerala has always been a market that appreciated good Volkswagen products and the sales numbers of Virtus and Taigun are an example for the same. Volkswagen had stated that the first lot of cars had already been sold out, and depending on the demand and response from customers, they’ll bring more units to Indian shores.

The first lot definitely received an overwhelming response, but this demand is likely to come down in subsequent batches. We’ve seen a similar trend with the older GTIs as well. Towards the end, they were sold at huge discounts, as many found them expensive.

Coming to the Golf GTI, this is a 4-door hot hatchback from Volkswagen. The Golf GTI has been launched in the market at ₹52.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It is a CBU and is currently the most expensive hatchback on sale in India. This hot hatch comes equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. It is capable of producing 265 PS and 370 Nm in its stock form. As for the transmission, it gets a 7-speed DSG. The hatchback can do the 0–100 kph run in just 5.9 seconds, has a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout, and its top speed is limited to 250 kmph.

Apart from performance, Volkswagen has also loaded the car with premium features like a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 7-speaker immersive audio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, push-button start/stop, and other features like progressive steering, electronically controlled front-axle differential lock, and Dynamic Chassis Control.
