Shooting Social Media Reel From Open Boot Of Moving Car: MVD Suspends Driving License

Social media is a crucial part of our lives and there are poeple who have picked up content creation as a career. There are people who create interesting reels for social media and this is often a very tricky job when it comes to cars. While shooting videos for cars, people often need moving shots and as one cannot match with the speed of a vehicle, they use other cars to shoot cars. Recently a photographer who was shooting a video from the open trunk of a moving car found himself in trouble with the authorities after the video went viral.
The incident happened in Kerala’s Kochi. We know that Kerala MVD is among one of the strictest in the country and they often make it to the news for one reason or the other. The video is said to be recorded from Seaport-Airport road in Kochi. The reports mention that it was busy road on this busy public road, a Baleno which was being used as a tracking car was being driven with the tailgate open.
In the boot of the car, we see two people sitting with cameras and phones in their hand. They were recording videos of a BMW luxury car. The Unfortunately when this was happening, a Motor Vehicle Department officer was present at the spot and he is the one who recorded the video. In the short clip that has been shared by Mathrubhumi online, we see a Baleno with two people sitting inside the boot with cameras in front of a BMW.
The officer recorded the video as an evidence and the department took action against the driver. As per the report, the car was being driven by a person called Amal Dev, who hails from Wayanad district. Amal was driving the car through a road near the driving test ground and that is one of the reason why officers spotted the vehicle. We are not sure if the driver’s license was only suspended or did the officers issue any other fine against the driver to reckless driving.
The officers have confirmed that the people in the boot were professional videographers and were shooting for social media content. Driving a car with open boot with people sitting in it is actually dangerous.
If you are not careful, the chances of a falling from the vehicle are pretty high. In many cases, the tracking cars are driven fast to match with the speed of the other vehicle. This helps them create dramatic shots for the video.
However, doing this on public road is not something that we would recommend. Permission should be taken from concerned authorities for such acts as this creates inconvenience to other road users.
Such acts not only put the life of the occupants in the car at risk but, also the lives of other road users. If you really want to shoot content for social media platforms, you can take your car to a private property, track or even a closed road to avoid such issues in future.
