Wheelie Gone Wrong: KTM Rider Confronted By Public After He Crashes [Video]

KTM is a brand that makes good motorcycles and sells them at good price points. In India, it is also the brand with the most amateur set of buyers! It is almost every day that we get to see 'KTM boys' landing themselves in trouble either by crashing out or by getting caught after trying to pull off dangerous stunts in public. The ignorance among these customers has ruined the manufacturer's reputation to a great extent. This story stems from a video that has recently surfaced online. It shows a KTM Duke rider being confronted by people around, after his attempt to pop a wheelie fails.
The video starts by showing a KTM Duke rider trying to pop a wheelie, with a pillion. He seems to be doing in what looks like the parking lot of a bus station. The attempt fails and he loses control of the vehicle. Both the rider and the pillion fall off the vehicle but manage to get out unhurt, but the bike moves ahead before crashing to a complete halt.
The rider has knee guards, a helmet, and other protective gear on, even though a proper riding jacket is completely missing. He makes a quick recovery and walks 'casually' towards the motorcycle, closely followed by the pillion.
Soon, the two of them lift the bike up and try to get back on the road. However, things took a U-turn when the people around approached them with rage, shouting and preventing them from making a flee. They blocked the rider and the pillion completely with one of them even turning the bike off and getting custody of its key.
The two were soon handed over to the police- says reports. It is safe to assume that they would have paid the fine and walked free (and could probably repeat the same in the future). While it is reassuring that no one was injured in this incident, the rising count of riders performing or attempting dangerous stunts in public places is truly alarming.
In another incident, an Instagram creator and influencer had attempted to pop a wheelie on a KTM Duke 125, and ended up in a crash that broke his leg. A video of the crash was later shared on Instagram. It shows the guy trying to perform the wheelie on what looks like a loosely populated public road. He gets the front wheel airborne, but soon loses control and crashes out.
While the crash itself may not look huge or dramatic, it had the bike land on his right leg, breaking it in no time. Following this, we also get to see him in a wheelchair, with a fractured leg. This rider, however, had just a helmet on at the time of the crash.
Both these incidents serve as reminders for the authorities and the public to proactively do their parts in curbing instances of irresponsible or dangerous riding on public roads (or in public/uncontrolled spaces) and in controlling amateur stunt riders.
Another key takeaway is the importance of investing in a good set of riding and safety gear. Proper riding pants, guards, gloves, jacket and boots will all help in minimizing the impact of a crash to some extent. Riders should also realise the need of having controlled environments set up if they truly wish to hone their stunting skills. Public spaces aren't destined for this purpose.
In most of the incidents and crashes involving KTMs, it isn't really the bike to blame...
