Instances of wrong-lane driving aren't uncommon in India. These often lead to accidents, causing damage and injuries to vehicles and people involved, respectively. Recently, a Land Rover Defender, which was driving on the wrong lane, crashed into a Toyota Hilux.

This incident came to light after a dashcam footage showing it was shared on the YouTube channel 'Prateek Singh'. The footage was reportedly shared by a person named Shreyas. It was captured by the camera installed in his car.

This accident happened near Coorg, in Karnataka. As the video opens, we see the camera-car driving through what looks like a twisty, two-lane, forest road.

A White Hyundai Verna is seen driving just in front of Sreyas' car. These vehicles are all driving at safe speeds. Soon, a Toyota Hilux aggressively overtakes the Verna, and starts driving in front of it. Later in the video, we see both vehicles approaching a right-hander curve. Suddenly, a Land Rover Defender 110 appears on the screen.

It is seen driving on the wrong lane even while negotiating the curve. It is carrying a high speed and is headed straight for the Toyota. The Defender driver soon understood the danger and flicked the wheel to the left. It was, however, too late. The Defender hits the Hilux and then swerves to the left, crashing into the bushes nearby.

The impact seems to have given both SUVs notable damage. The Defender got its bonnet, front fender and headlamps damaged. The windshield seems to have taken a hit as well. It was the Hilux which had to suffer more. Extensive damage can be seen on its right side. The video shows the doors and fenders to have significant dents and tears. Elements like the front grille, bumper, and headlamps also seem to have been affected.

The Defender 110 has a very strong build. The cabin remains unaffected by the crash, pointing to its occupants being safe. The Hilux too is known for its sturdy build quality. The impact made it land on its left side. From what we see in the video, the occupants are likely to be safe. Soon after the crash, the Verna and other vehicles stop and help the victims. The Defender driver can be seen getting out, completely unhurt, and checking for damages to his SUV.

Who Is At Fault Here?

While we don't know the exact details of this crash, the video footage suggests the Defender to be at fault here. It shows him to be speeding around the curve. This might have likely unsettled the vehicle at the apex of the curve.

Another possibility is a driver distraction. See how the Defender was seen driving on the right lane (the wrong lane) along the curve? Well, it might have been due to distracted driving. A combination of high speed and slow response from its driver likely led to the Defender ramming into the Hilux here.

The Defender Is Crashworthy!

The 2025 Defender 110 has an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.39 Crores. It scored a five-star safety rating in the crash tests done by Euro NCAP. Hilux Has 5-Star Rating Too

Toyota sells the Hilux in various global markets. The lifestyle pickup truck is known for its reliability and has been awarded a five-star rating by the ASEAN NCAP. It further scored a five-star rating for adult occupant protection in the Latin NCAP crash test.
