Why Sunny Leone Sold Her Mercedes, BMW For A ‘Humble’ MG Gloster

When we speak about Bollywood actors, their lavish lifestyle and expensive cars are often discussed. They frequently update their garages with luxurious cars, as they seek comfortable rides to relax while traveling from one location to another. However, what we often don’t realize is that celebrities are also like us and face problems with their vehicles just as we do. There have been several incidents where people have experienced car troubles during the monsoon. Actress Sunny Leone is one such celebrity. She replaced her expensive Mercedes and BMW with an MG Gloster for this very reason.
In an interview, Sunny Leone shared her mixed feelings about the monsoon, especially Mumbai rains. She said that she really enjoys the rain and likes to stay indoors. However, this enjoyment quickly fades as issues related to the monsoon arise. She described her experience as often frustrating, especially when water seeps into her home during heavy rains.
She then spoke about how heavy rains and waterlogging affected her garage. She mentioned that she owned three cars but, unfortunately, lost all three to Mumbai rains. She also expressed concerns about the high or additional taxes involved in importing an expensive car. Despite paying such high taxes, she lost her vehicles due to the lack of proper infrastructure.
Sunny Leone did not reveal much information about the cars she lost in the flood. While details remain scarce, it’s assumed that the vehicles she referred to include a BMW 7-Series and a Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. However, the identity of the third car remains a complete mystery.
Luxury cars like these are extremely expensive, and their maintenance costs are equally high. If something goes wrong with the vehicle, the cost of repairs can be exorbitant. These cars come with numerous electronic components, which often become a source of issues. When an expensive car is driven through flooded roads, the electronics can short-circuit, causing significant problems.
Additionally, if the water level exceeds what the car can handle, there’s a high risk of water entering the engine through the air intake. If that happens, the car will suffer from hydrolock, rendering it non-operational. Repairing a hydrolocked car is an expensive and time-consuming process.
This is why Sunny Leone replaced her German cars with a more affordable SUV. She was so impressed with the MG Gloster that she fondly refers to it as her “Indian Truck.” She uses the Gloster regularly and has been spotted with it on several occasions.
The MG Gloster was first introduced in 2020 and was the first SUV in its segment to offer ADAS. It is currently the flagship SUV from MG in India. The Gloster comes with diesel engine options. The lower variants feature a 2.0-liter single-turbo engine, while the higher version are equipped with a twin-turbocharged engine. The single turbo variant generates 158 Bhp and 373 Nm of torque while the twin-turbo version generates 212 Bhp and 478 Nm of peak torque.
The higher variants even offer a 4×4 feature. Price for a brand new MG Gloster starts at Rs 38.30 lakh, ex-showroom and goes all the way till Rs 43.87 lakh, ex-showroom.
