Transport Minister Buys Land Rover Defender: Gets Trolled For Bad Roads

Gone are the days when politicians used to lead a humble lifestyle with a mentality to serve the nation. For many, politics is a medium to show power and serve the nation without compromising on their lifestyle. There are many businessmen who are actually part of the great Indian political circus. We have seen many of them use expensive cars to travel. Maharashtra’s current transport minister recently got himself a brand-new Land Rover Defender, and a video of him taking delivery of the car has now surfaced online.

The video has been shared by Guru Auto on their Instagram page. In this video, we see the dealers delivering a white-colored Land Rover Defender to Minister Pratap Sarnaik of Maharashtra. He is actually seen performing religious rituals on his Defender as part of the delivery.

The car was bought from Guru Auto, and it looks like they deal in luxury cars. It is quite possible that the Defender seen here is not new but a used one. The registration number of the SUV is not clear in the video, which is why we cannot confirm the same.

Buying a used Defender is not a bad decision considering the fact of how fast these cars depreciate. If he has bought a used Defender, he would have got a car in mint condition without actually spending a lot.

The minister takes the delivery and he is handed over a hamper as part of the event. While the video seems fine, the comment section is filled with remarks trolling the minister. Recently, we have been seeing a lot of videos from different parts of Maharashtra where the roads are in pathetic condition. Most of the users are trolling the minister for the same thing.

Pratap Baburao Sarnaik is a Member of the Legislative Assembly from Ovala-Majiwada (Vidhan Sabha constituency). It looks like many of the users who have commented under this video are from his constituency. Some of the comments under this video are, “Ghodbundar ke road par chalne ke liye Defender hi chahiye”, “But sir woh roads ??”, “Ghodbunder Samruddhi expressways ki taraf se gift hai yeh.”

Apart from being a minister, Pratap Sarnaik is also a businessman. He is the Chairman of Vihang Group of Companies, which is in the construction sector, and that is how we assume he managed to buy the Defender.

The Land Rover Defender has become a popular choice among celebs, politicians, and businessmen recently because it offers ample road presence and has a long list of premium features. The SUV offers all these features without compromising on its off-road capabilities.

Like most politicians, Pratap Sarnaik was also involved in controversies. He was actually summoned by the ED in connection with a money laundering case. In connection with the same, the probing agency attached or seized assets of the minister back in 2022. Apart from the Defender, Pratap Sarnaik also has other expensive cars. He owns cars like a Toyota Land Cruiser LC200, Toyota Innova, and many other expensive vehicles.

The Land Rover Defender seen here in the video is the 110 variant, and it is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The price for a Defender starts at Rs 1.05 crore (ex-showroom) and goes all the way up to Rs 2.79 crore.
