Indian highways are infamous for being extremely unsafe. Each and every day, thousands of accidents take place on the highways. Sometimes they are caused by humans, and a lot of times, stray animals who wander on the road cause these accidents. Recently, a video has become viral on the internet in which a Mahindra Scorpio Classic was seen trying to avoid hitting a cow on a national highway. Unfortunately, as a result of this, the Scorpio flipped on its side and dragged 100 feet on the road.

Mahindra Scorpio trying to save cow gets dragged 100 feet

This video showing the Mahindra Scorpio dragging on a national highway has been shared on X by Deadly Kalesh on their page. The video in the post is a CCTV camera footage, which was retrieved from a dhaba that was located next to the National Highway 46 in Madhya Pradesh, where this incident took place. It starts with a cow crossing the national highway after walking over the divider.

Following this, we can note a Mahindra Scorpio Classic, which was being driven at a slightly higher speed. The driver of this SUV then suddenly noticed the cow on the road and tried to avoid hitting it. However, as this SUV was at a high speed and the driver turned the steering wheel to the other side, he could not control it.

As a result of this, the vehicle turned right, and then, due to the high speed and the body roll, it flipped and turned on its side. Now, generally, when this happens, the vehicle only goes slightly ahead. However, in this case, as the speed was high, the vehicle did not stop quickly. Instead, it was dragging for over 100 feet before coming to a halt on the side of the road.

What happened next?

We can note that soon after the vehicle was dragging on the national highway, it finally stopped on the side of the road. Soon after this, a security guard from the dhaba, in front of which this incident took place, ran towards the Mahindra Scorpio to check on the driver and the passengers inside. Thankfully, as per the reports, all the passengers sitting inside this Mahindra Scorpio Classic were safe.

What not to do to avoid such situations?

The first and the most important thing to not do when you are in such a situation is that you should never take a sharp turn or turn the steering wheel aggressively to try and save the obstacle in front. Such manoeuvres destabilize the vehicle, which results in such flips. Thankfully, in this case, the vehicle only got dragged on the highway as it was smooth.

If this had been a rough road, this vehicle would have flipped over multiple times, making the situation a lot worse. Especially when driving SUVs which have a taller body, they have to be driven more carefully as they are very prone to getting flipped over due to the higher centre of gravity. Apart from these points, make sure that you are always driving at safe and manageable speeds.

Overspeeding and the unpredictability of Indian highways is a deadly combination, which in most cases causes terrifying accidents. The occupants of this particular Mahindra Scorpio were very lucky to escape unharmed. However, not everyone is as lucky and can even die due to overspeeding.
