Reckless Driving: Men In Mahindra Scorpio-N Thrashed By Public And Police [Video]

It isn't uncommon to find people driving irresponsibly and recklessly on Indian roads. Most places in Haryana are known for having arrogant, dangerous drivers. In a recent crackdown, men in a Mahindra Scorpio-N, including the driver, were thrashed by people and the police for performing rash and reckless driving on public roads.
A video of the same has now surfaced online. It starts by showing two cops pulling the Scorpio-N's driver out of the SUV. They then thrash him hard. A few locals can also be seen standing nearby. One of them then opens the rear right door of the SUV and pulls out another guy. They shout at him and beat him up as well.
Even the traffic police and a person who looks like security personnel can be seen beating them up. The massive public outrage points to the SUV having committed some serious violation. The Scorpio's driver and passenger are both horrified and helpless.
Later in the video, people from the place explain what the youngsters had done with the SUV. They allegedly raced the Scorpio through public roads and performed stunts with it. They were accused of paying zero regard to the traffic around or to the safety of the larger public.
Witnesses say that the areas where this reckless driving occurred was quite populated and had several institutions, including schools and markets. There was thus an increased chance of people getting hurt. Lives were at risk. This fuelled massive public anger, which can be seen in the video. It also shows the accused being arrested and moved to a cop vehicle.
One should see this incident as a wake-up call. Reckless driving has lately been on a steep climb. It is high time that the authorities implemented steps to ensure stricter enforcement. We need to make our roads safer and train our citizens to have better civic sense.
The video has been amassing massive viewership. Netizens have been actively commenting on it. It is clear from these comments and remarks that the public is extremely annoyed with reckless drivers. Someone even wrote it explicitly- 'Public is so done with these rash drivers,'. Many approve of this act of 'instant justice'. 'On the spot faisla' said a user while another commented 'Best treatment'.
Several other comments had a pinch of sarcasm and humour in them. Someone said '5 stars unlocked on GTA V and then police caught them' while another jokingly said 'Essay ki length kya hogi is baar?.' (translating to 'what will be the length of the essay this time?) If you didn't get the context yet, this comment takes a dig at the Pune Porsche crash, in which the accused was asked to write a 300-word essay on road safety, as part of punishment/corrective measures.
Another witty X user commented “Ye Surfexcel wali hai ya Ariel wali dhulai?” referring to the thorough beating that the two received. Some comments even pointed at the money-bias and corruption in some sections of the enforcement, saying 'He is obviously not rich enough. If he was driving a more expensive car he could avoid this. Poor guy.' It is a grim reality that in many places, people with money and power often break laws in broad daylight and still stay clear of any legal trouble.
Unfortunately, rash and negligent driving isn't limited to Haryana alone. In previous cases, we saw reckless drivers causing trouble in Pune and Delhi as well. In Haryana, however, the police registered as many as 450 rash driving cases in June this year.
In the larger picture, India has reportedly had over 2000 cases in this quarter! The numbers are indeed alarming. We expect the authorities to act quick on these...
