Mahindra Thar ROXX Modified With 22 Inch Wheels Right On Day Of Delivery [Video]

Mahindra Thar deliveries have begun in the country, and so have mods. In what seems to be a crazy incident, someone from Punjab has fitted 22-inch wheels on his brand-new Thar Roxx, on the day of delivery. A video showing the vehicle and work done was shared on the shop’s official Instagram handle.
The video comes from Amritsar in Punjab. Punjabis are known for their affinity towards Jeeps and their crazy builds. The Black Thar Roxx shown here, rides on massive 22-inch alloy wheels. A shop named Ravi Tyres has done the job.
The top-spec ROXX comes with 19-inch wheels (255/60 tyres) from the factory. The lower variants- the MX5 for example, feature 18-inch (255/65 rubber) units. These have been swapped with 22/12 FUEL Contra wheels. The rims shown in the video are Fuel D643 Contra Gloss Black-Red Milled Off-Road rims. These are imported wheels and are quite expensive.
The move has upped the visual impact of the vehicle. The quality of work also seems to be fairly good. The design of these wheels is more on the ‘ on yer face’ side.
However, such swaps are not the safest nor are they the most practical. Fitting humongous 22-inchers on something like the Roxx will take a toll on its practicality, usability, ride quality and handling. It will render the vehicle susceptible to remarkably poor ride comfort and road manners. Having to cope with a bumpy, uncomfortable ride after spending tens of thousands on a fancy set of wheels, is not the smartest idea.
Courtesy of their size, these wheels also pose a greater chance of breaking or getting shattered when driven through broken and bad roads. We have seen many such instances in the past. The Roxx with these wheels could fail in going off-road. However, the SUV shown in the video is a 4×2 variant. It will thus not be taken off-roads or to extreme terrains. The 4×4 variant, on the other hand, is very capable of doing the same.
On smooth roads and highways, however, the downsides will be relatively less. The handling and manoeuvrability would have been affected. Plus, the road presence and stance will both be elevated by the new wheels. Such wheels might thus become popular on the ROXX 4×2 variants in the future.
Installing these huge rims would have demanded reworks in areas like the suspension. Doing so will lead to the manufacturer being able to deny suspension warranty on modified vehicles.
The Roxx is based on Mahindra’s new-age M-GLYDE platform. It is offered in two engine options- a 2.2L mHawk diesel engine and a 2.0L mStallion turbocharged petrol engine. The petrol engine produces 175 horsepower and 380 Newton, while the diesel generates 170 hp and 330 Nm. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are available. The 5-door SUV also offers 4-wheel drive in select variants. There are a total of six trims available.
Mahindra opened bookings for the 5-door Thar on October 3, 2024. It garnered 1.76 lakh orders in the first 60 minutes. Deliveries of the Ivory interior variants began during Dussehra, while those of the Mocha interior variants ( 4×4 only) will begin in January 2025. In another interesting incident, the first ROXX (VIN 001) was auctioned off, with the winning bid being 1.31 Cr -made by Akash Minda of Minda Corporation.
