India's First Mahindra Thar ROXX-Based Overlander: This Is IT! [Video]
A few years ago, the camping vehicle scene in India was not very prominent. However, over the last few years, it has developed a lot. Today, there are a lot more modified camping vehicles on the road. Recently, a video has been shared online in which a Mahindra Thar ROXX, which is completely modified into a hardcore camper, is shown in detail. This particular SUV is equipped with a proper awning with a hammock, a complete kitchen, and even a shower, and is India's first overlander based on the Thar Roxx!
Mahindra Thar ROXX camper conversion
This particular video showing the Mahindra Thar ROXX conversion into a camper with all the amenities has been shared on YouTube by Motorhome Adventures on their channel. It starts off with exterior shots of the camper which show it fully converted into a camping vehicle, following which it then goes into the details of all the amenities that have been added.
Exterior modifications
First off, let's start with the modifications done on the exterior of this Thar ROXX. At the front, this SUV gets a complete metal bumper from Bullhorn. This bumper has provisions for a winch and it also gets a bull guard with aftermarket LED lights. The lower portion of this vehicle has been given a metal skid plate as well, which ensures that the mechanical components do not get damaged.
Next up, on the side profile, the 19-inch alloy wheels from the factory have been retained. Notable mods include foldable steps on the doors finished in red color, a functional snorkel, extra movable LED lights, and a light bar on the top of the windshield as well. The sides also get a Land Rover Defender-like storage box and a foldable ladder.
Apart from these, to make this vehicle even more off-road and camping ready, it also gets a custom bracket above the rear spare tyre. This bracket holds a shovel, a jerry can, and a propane tank holder for the cooking gas stove. The roof also gets a carrier which has been designed so that the panoramic sunroof can still be accessed.
This Thar ROXX also gets a metal rear bumper from Bullhorn as well. As for the main highlight of the exterior of this SUV, it is the large awning. It can be noted that the awning covers the left side and the rear portion of this SUV. Also, it gets a hammock setup, which was shown being used by the owner of this SUV.
Kitchen and shower setup
To make this vehicle a completely self-sustainable camper, it has also been given a shower and kitchen setup as well. It can be seen that the lady attached a shower on the top. Next, they open the rear tailgate and pull out the two drawers which have been finished in wood and have compartments for the storage of kitchen utensils and the gas stove.
Additionally, there is an attachment in this setup which allows one to create a sink by mounting a rod on the rear bumper. The video then shows the entire family gathered in the rear, cooking food on the gas stove. Lastly, the driver drives the vehicle while a lady is relaxing in the hammock on the side. Most likely, it also has a bed setup inside the cabin; however, that has not been shown in the video.
