Mahindra Thar ROXX Vs Maruti Jimny: Who Wins The 4X4 Off Road Battle? [Video]
Even before the official launch of the Mahindra Thar Roxx, people started comparing it with the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. The primary reason for their comparison is their overlapping characteristics. They both offer five doors, five seats, dedicated off-road equipment, and added practicality. Now, comparing them on paper is easy, but recently, a thorough comparison of both of these SUVs doing proper off-roading has finally been shared online.
Mahindra Thar Roxx vs. Maruti Suzuki Jimny
This video showing the off-roading capabilities of both of these SUVs has been shared on YouTube by Small Town Rider on their channel. It starts off with the host introducing the Jimny and the Thar Roxx, which are being compared in the video. He mentions that this particular Jimny is the base Zeta manual model, which costs Rs 14 lakh.
Following this, he mentions that the Thar Roxx in front is the top-spec AX7L variant, which costs Rs 26 lakh. After this, he goes directly into the details of the off-roading equipment that is offered with both vehicles. For this, he first jumps inside the Jimny and shows the manual transmission and 4×4 gear selector with 2-wheel drive, 4 low, and 4 high gears.
The vlogger then adds that, apart from this, the Jimny also comes equipped with a BLD, or Brake Locking Differential. After this, he moves to the interior of the Thar Roxx and gives the details of the off-road equipment offered. He states that this particular variant is the automatic variant, and it also gets a 4X4 gear selector.
The Thar Roxx also comes equipped with a manual locking differential, and it also gets Intelli Turn and a crawl mode. Apart from these, the Roxx also gets three additional off-road modes, including snow, mud, and sand. After talking about the off-roading specifications, the vlogger then starts with the actual showdown of these two SUVs.
Thar Roxx vs. Jimny off-roading
In the video, the vlogger first asks the official Mahindra dealership employee who brought this SUV for the test to go down a steep slope. We can note that due to the articulation, the rear left wheel was in the air. However, after engaging the 4X4 high gear, it quickly goes down without any effort.
Next up, the Jimny goes down the same slope. However, this time around, its wheel does not go in the air. The vlogger explains that this happened because his SUV has been fitted with a lift kit. Following this, the vlogger comes up with a unique test to check out the Intelli Turn feature of the Thar Roxx.
For this, he first finds a small plant, parks his Jimny next to it, and marks it. He explains that he will now be making a U-turn to check the turning radius of his SUV. After this, they will do the same with the Thar Roxx but with the Intelli Turn and check if this feature is actually useful or not.
We can note that the Jimny’s radius is very big, and it takes a lot of space to turn around. However, after the driver of the Thar Roxx uses the Intelli Turn feature, the rear wheels of the SUV lock up, and its radius becomes half of the Jimny’s. Unfortunately, it destroys the plant in the process, but its radius impresses the vlogger.
Last obstacle
Finally, after this test, the vlogger then finds another steep slope to climb up. He first takes his Jimny, which goes over this slope on the second turn. However, the Thar Roxx, on the other hand, does it on the first try even without using its differential lockers.
The vlogger then asks the Thar Roxx driver to attempt the same obstacle again. This time, he asks him to show the crawl mode feature of this SUV. So, the driver does this, and it can be noted that this time as well, the Thar Roxx climbs this obstacle very easily.
