Mahindra is one of the leading SUV manufacturers in the country, and lately, they have been coming up with new and interesting features in their vehicles. One of the popular features in most modern cars these days is a sunroof. However, we have come across several instances where people have had bad experiences because of this feature. Here, we have one such video of a Mahindra XUV700 owner who shared a video of the panoramic sunroof on his SUV leaking during heavy rains.

The video has been shared by Chandigarh News on their Instagram page. We are assuming that the owner of the car is from the city and he discovered this issue during the recent rains. In the video, we see the person sitting in the driver’s seat of the XUV700 with a towel in his lap.

He is carrying a towel just to clean or mop all the water that has been dripping from the roof of his vehicle. The video shows that the water is leaking from the panoramic sunroof of the SUV. In the video, he is seen complaining about the quality of the sunroof and other features in his XUV700.

He can be heard saying that cars are known to keep the water out during rains, but the Mahindra XUV700 is different. It ensures that the driver and occupants also enjoy the rain while sitting inside.

What is happening here?

If you look carefully, the water is leaking from one particular point. It is, in fact, dripping from the roof-mounted speakers in the XUV700. We have seen several videos in the past where people have come up with similar issues.

It should be noted that panoramic sunroofs are not completely waterproof. They are designed to be water-resistant, not fully waterproof. You may have noticed the rubber beading around the glass on the roof in a panoramic sunroof. Under the glass, there is a channel that runs around the area under the beading. This channel is connected to a drain.

If water seeps in, it won’t fall inside the cabin directly. It will be channeled towards a drain pipe, which usually runs through the pillars and takes the water out. While many people want a car with a sunroof, only a few know how to take care of this feature.

If you are parking your car outside a lot, the chances of dust and debris getting collected in this channel and clogging the drain pipes are pretty high. Most people ignore this, and when it rains, the water gets collected in the channel but there is no way for it to go. It is then that the water starts leaking inside the cabin.

Just like how you get your car checked before the monsoon, ensure that you also get the sunroof inspected. Make sure that the drain pipes are not clogged, and they should be cleaned regularly to avoid any issues at any point in time.

Sometimes, even a small piece of leaf can actually become the reason for a disaster. We really hope the owner of the car got the vehicle inspected and the issue resolved.
