Driving on Indian roads is a challenge and not something for the faint-hearted, and we have several examples in the past that prove the same. Accidents happen every day, and we have mentioned it several times on our website that Indians lack patience on the road and try to fit our vehicles through even the smallest gap we find. This often leads to accidents, and here we have one such video that shows what happens when you don’t maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front.

The video has been available on various social media platforms. It was recorded on the dash camera of the car. The exact location of the accident is not known, but looking at the registration number of the car, it appears the accident happened somewhere in Uttar Pradesh.

When the video starts, we see a Kia Sonet in front of the dashcam car on the four-lane highway. The Kia Sonet driver is overtaking a truck that is moving slowly in the right lane. Ideally, the truck should have been in the left lane, and the car should not be overtaking from the left-hand side.

However, in this case, the Kia Sonet driver probably had no choice but to overtake the truck from the left side. The video shows that the dashcam car was blindly following the Sonet and was probably trying to squeeze through the left lane to overtake the truck.

However, the driver didn’t have a clear vision of the road ahead and didn’t know that there was a state corporation bus parked on the side. The Kia Sonet went ahead and overtook the truck, but by the time the dashcam car reached the spot, the gap was too narrow and it could not overtake.

The driver managed to stop the car in time and avoided crashing into the bus parked in the left lane. However, a Mahindra XUV700 coming from behind was not aware of this move. That driver was also blindly following the car in front and forgot to apply the brakes.

By the time he realised that the car ahead had stopped, it was too late, and the XUV700 rear-ended the dashcam car. The dashcam car hit the bus in front too, but we feel it hardly made a dent on the bus’s body. Immediately after the accident, the bus moved ahead after dropping the passenger. The dashcam car and the XUV700 were left with damaged panels.

Coming to the video, the dashcam car and the XUV700 are both at fault here. They should have ideally maintained a gap or distance from the vehicle in front. They should have stayed a bit more alert on the road too. However, we are not sure if the stop that the bus made on the roadside was legal or not. We do not see a bus stop at the place where the bus was parked.

So we feel even the bus driver also contributed to this accident. If you are travelling on a highway, it is always a good idea to maintain at least a three-second gap from the vehicle in front. If it is raining, the distance should be increased, and speed should be reduced to avoid accidents. Also, try not to overtake any vehicle especially from the left as they might not spot you because of the large blind spot.
