India has been having a lot of excitement around the Volkswagen Golf GTI. The performance hatchback has already reached the garages of many entrepreneurs and public figures. Kerala, in particular, has received the Golf well. Many actors from the Malayalam film industry have already taken deliveries of their GTIs. We had already reported that Mammootty, one of the biggest names in Malayalam cinema, is getting one as well. We had even let out the car's picture, from a dealer yard. Now, another set of images gives a more detailed look at it, from within a dealership. Mammootty also owns a Polo GTI.

In these pictures, we see the actor's Golf parked at the Phoenix Volkswagen showroom. We get to have close looks at its colourway, wheels, rear and front designs and more. The car-crazy father-son duo's Golf wears the 'Kings Red Metallic' paint.

Their garage is often called the '369 garage' as almost all of the vehicles have the number 369 on their respective plates. The garage is expansive with a lot of expensive, iconic and classic cars and SUVs.

Interestingly, Mammootty and Dulquer belong to the very few who own the Polo GTI and Golf GTI. Dulquer's garage also had a previous generation Golf GTI in it. We don't know if he still keeps it or not. This makes him the only celebrity to have owned two generations of Golf and three of the GTI.

Malayalam Film Industry Has All The Golf Colours!

As amusing as its sounds, Malayalam actors and celebrities have brought all the colourways of the Golf GTI to the industry. Actor Jayasurya was the first to take delivery of a nOryx White Golf with Mother of Pearl Effect. Fahadh Faasil chose the Grenadilla Black Metallic paint for his Golf. Actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi's son Madhav Suresh bought the Moonstone Grey. The Golf GTI offers these four colours in the Indian market.

Volkswagen launched the Golf GTI 8.5 (8.5 implies the facelift of the eighth generation) in the Indian market in May 2025. The vehicle is brought in as complete imports without homologation, and thus the first batch consists of just 150 units. 50 of these, interestingly, are headed for Kerala! The GTI has a steep pricing, owing to the import route.

The five-door performance hatchback gets a sporty design. It keeps the Golf DNA safe in the way it looks. There is a strong focus on aerodynamics. Key design highlights include a honeycomb grille, multiple red accents, five-segment LED headlamps, an illuminated logo, dual exhaust tips, roof-mounted spoiler and GTI badges. The design at large, looks hunkered down, and the hatchback rides on 18-inch wheels. Despite its focus on performance, the Golf GTI 8.5 offers 380 liters of usable boot space.

The seats get Tartan upholstery, 'GTI' badges and Red contrast stitching.

The GTI is powered by a 2.0 TSI turbocharged petrol engine that makes 265 PS and 370 Nm, which comes mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. The 0-100 kph sprint is done in just 5.9 seconds and the top speed stands at 250 kph. The GTI has a front-wheel drive (FWD) layout and is a tuner-friendly car as well.

It also comes with the likes of progressive steering, electronically controlled front-axle differential lock, and Dynamic Chassis Control, which further enhance the overall dynamics.
