We have all come across several meme posts and videos about the Maruti Alto 800 on the internet. It is often referred to as “Lord Alto” because there are video proofs where we have seen the Alto being driven on roads covered in snow and even in places where there are no roads. Here, we have one such video where we see an Alto 800 wading through flooded roads in Assam after heavy rain.

The video seen here has been shared by Autojournal India, but we have seen similar videos on other social media platforms too. The video shows a fully flooded road in Assam after heavy rain. Just like many parts of North India and the South, the Northeast has also been receiving heavy rainfall, and many rivers are overflowing in the region.

This has led to waterlogging in many areas. The spot seen in the video is one such place. We see a long queue of vehicles on the flyover, as the road under the flyover is completely flooded. Through this flooded road, we see a small car moving forward.

Initially, the vehicle wasn’t clearly visible as the wave in front of it was easily above the front grille. As the car moved faster, we realized that it was a Maruti Alto 800 hatchback. The driver was driving the car through the waterlogged section. It didn’t look like he was facing any issues.

He was maintaining a steady speed and slowly made progress. After the car made it to the other side of the road, the driver stopped the vehicle and we could see water dripping from underneath it. We also see smoke after the water around the exhaust pipe started evaporating.

The driver opens the door and lets all the water out from the cabin. For a second, it looked like the car broke down after crossing, but that was not the case. Lord Alto once again proved that it can do extraordinary things, and the driver continued his journey with the doors open to let the water drain out.

Should You Do It?

The video definitely looked fun, and we’re pretty sure the driver would have enjoyed this stunt. But should you do it? The answer to this question is a simple No. While the driver was successful in driving the car through waterlogged sections, there are many things that could go wrong.

The driver and the car could get stranded in the waterlogged section if the vehicle stalls. There is also a possibility that the driver might crash into an obstacle hidden under the water and damage the vehicle.

While driving through deep water, the chances of water getting into the air intake are quite high. If that happens, the engine might shut off on its own a condition known as hydrolocking. If this happens, there’s no way the driver can drive the car out of the situation.

He will have to tow the car to a service station to get the water removed. This is both time-consuming and expensive. Alto driver might have been lucky this time but, there is no guarantee that things would be the same the next time.

If your vehicle gets stalled while driving through such a section, it’s always a good idea to get out and check whether the water is too deep. Never try starting your vehicle again. Request help and push the car out of the water. If you are confident that water has not entered the engine, you can try restarting the vehicle once it’s out of the water and take it to the nearest service station for a quick inspection.
