The demand for electric vehicles in India is on the rise. Apart from car manufacturers, there are several other workshops now working on electric vehicles. Some of them have even developed custom conversion kits that can be installed on ICE vehicles. One such popular name in the field of conversion kits in India is Northway Motors. They are a Pune-based firm that works on EV conversion kits. They have developed several kits for such conversions, and the latest one is for a Maruti Eeco van. The Maruti Eeco with the retrofitted EV kit will offer a 220 km range.

The video has been shared by Northway & NT Power Systems on their YouTube channel. In this video, we see a stock Maruti Eeco parked on the roadside. While the van looks stock on the outside, a lot has changed underneath. In fact, it has been completely stripped down to be converted into an electric vehicle.

The engine, gearbox, exhaust, and all components related to an internal combustion engine have been removed. Once these components are removed, the battery pack and electric powertrain are installed underneath the vehicle. This has been intentionally done to ensure that the car’s interior doesn’t require any changes.

As the batteries are placed under the floor, there is no difference in the floor height. However, we feel the suspension setup on the MPV has been upgraded to ensure that it doesn’t bottom out.

The interiors of the Eeco look stock, and it still comes with a clutch pedal. The driver can use the gear lever like in a regular manual transmission for better efficiency and range. It is actually a multi-speed semi-automatic system. This means it can be driven as both an automatic and a manual vehicle.

As this is an EV, it doesn’t need a fuel tank anymore. So, the fuel filler cap area has been converted into a charging port for the EV. It is protected with a cover, and there is a proper lock for the flap as well. Under the floor, there is a 22 kWh battery pack that sends power to an electric motor generating 24 PS and 100 Nm of torque. It is a high-duty-cycle motor, which is also used in other electric vehicle kits from the brand.

The 22 kWh battery pack can be charged from 0 to 100 percent in just 2 hours. The company is selling the conversion kit as a package. The video mentions that the kit is open for pre-bookings, and deliveries for the electric Maruti Eeco will begin in October 2025. The certified driving range of the Maruti Eeco after the EV conversion is around 200 to 220 km.

The pre-booking charges for this kit are Rs 49,000, and the total cost of the conversion, including a brand-new Eeco, is Rs 9.99 lakh. This includes the vehicle, conversion kit, taxes, insurance, and RTO fees. As this is a retrofit kit, Northway will take care of the documentation and deliver the vehicle to the customer after registration.

This service is currently available for customers in Maharashtra only. Northway Motors is also offering customization options, but the only requirement is that the car must be purchased from them. We feel this would serve as a great option for those looking for a spacious and practical electric vehicle for both personal and commercial use.
