Maruti Jimny is an extremely good and capable 4×4 SUV. Maruti didn’t get the kind of response they were expecting for Jimny from the customers and this has mainly to do with the pricing. Maruti did offer the Jimny on discounts and that attracted many buyers to the showrooms. While we have seen many individuals who are interested in off-roading buy Jimny we have not seen any videos of a government agency using the Jimny until now. For a change Kerala police has decided to upgrade from the Boleros to Jimny as patrol car.

The video has been shared by Rahul Kaimal on their Instagram page. In this video, we see a Maruti Jimny parked outside a Police station in Kerala. This is not a usual Jimny but, property of Kerala police. We see Kerala police sticker on t he doors along with sticker on the front windshield.

The name of the police station that uses the Jimny is also there on the bonnet of the SUV. We see Rajakkad police station sticker on the bonnet. Rajakkad is a town in Idukki which is a hilly district in Kerala. Maruti Jimny is a perfect companion for the officers who work in such areas. Jimny can easily perform well on such difficult terrains and can even be used for rescue operations if needed.

The SUV seen here in the video looks stock with the original alloy wheels and tyres. Even in its stock form, the SUV is actually very capable and we have several videos available online that prove the same.

The comment section under this video is congratulating the police department for inducting Jimny into the force. However, there are a few comments that ask the officers on duty to actually get proper training on how to drive a vehicle off-road.

Kerala Police adds Jimny a patrol vehicle

Most of the officers might know how to drive a car or SUV but, they might not have the much needed knowledge on how to drive off-road. The department should actually organise a workshop where they train the officers on how to do basic off-roadings and rescue operations using the equipment that they have with them. Some of them even commented that they hope that the police department will take care of the Jimny properly.

Maruti Jimny is not the most powerful SUV in its segment but, it is lightweight and extremely reliable. It uses the K15B 1.5 litre, naturally aspirated petrol engine. This is the same engine that is offered with the 3-door version internationally. The SUV generates 105 Ps and 134 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic transmission option.

This is not the first time, Kerala police has added 4x4s into the force. They had a fleet of Bolero Invader 4x4s, After that we even saw them upgrade to Force Gurkha 4×4 SUVs.

All these 4×4 vehicles were actually stationed in areas where the terrain was tough or where the regular 2WD vehicles were struggling. 4×4 vehicles are of great help during floods and landslides and a simple no nonsence SUV like Jimny would be able to got to places where a regular car can’t.
