Mahindra Thar ROXX Gets Stuck On Steep Obstacle: Maruti Jimny Sails Through (Video)
The Mahindra Thar Roxx, even before its launch, was being compared to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. So now that the deliveries of the Thar Roxx have commenced, people have started taking both of these SUVs off-roading. Naturally, this has led to the comparison of both SUVs on rough terrain, and recently, a video of these two SUVs off-roading has been shared online. In this particular video, the Jimny managed to overcome the obstacle; however, the Thar Roxx could not.
This video of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny vs. Mahindra Thar Roxx off-roading has been shared on YouTube by Small Town Rider on their channel. It starts with the vlogger mentioning that they are going off-roading with two Mahindra Thar Roxx and a Thar three-door, along with one Maruti Suzuki Jimny and one Gypsy.
Following this, he shows himself and his friends reaching the spot for their adventure. It starts off with a rough uphill drive, which was very easy for all of the SUVs. So, in order to make things a little more challenging, one of the vlogger’s friends, who was driving a Maruti Suzuki Gypsy, did something unique.
Mahindra Thar Roxx vs. Maruti Jimny
The driver of the Gypsy drove down a sandy edge. This created a rough slope, which was then attempted by all the other SUVs. First, after the Gypsy, was the Mahindra Thar Roxx. Prior to attempting to go down, it was shown in the video that the left LED DRL of the red Thar Roxx was not working.
However, turning the car off and then back on fixed this issue. The driver of this red Roxx then drove down the steep, sandy slope. It can be seen that the SUV easily managed to go down. The video shows that, despite the steep angle of the slope, both the front and rear bumpers of the SUV did not scrape.
Following this, the driver of the battleship-grey Thar Roxx tried going up the same slope. However, this time, the Mahindra Thar Roxx could not perform as desired. It was noted that, due to the extra weight, the SUV was unable to climb the steep slope.
Even after taking a considerable run-up, the Thar Roxx was unable to tackle this obstacle. Soon after, the vlogger sat in his Maruti Suzuki Jimny and started driving down the slope. It can be noted in the video that the Jimny was able to descend this steep slope like it was nothing.
After this, the vlogger then turned his Jimny around to go up the slope. Unsurprisingly, the Jimny, without any effort, managed to climb up. The vlogger then mentions that although the Thar Roxx was unable to cross this obstacle, it should be added that his Jimny has been lifted and has bigger wheels and tires. He also added that the Jimny is a lot lighter.
Importance of weight in off-roading
Although many people opt for bigger and more powerful vehicles for off-roading, it has not been kept in mind that lightweight vehicles are a lot better at tackling rough terrains. These vehicles are very agile and can be driven over any obstacle easily.
The Jimny, as we all know, weighs in at 1,205 kg. Meanwhile, the Thar Roxx, on the other hand, weighs in at 1,757 kg. This makes the Thar Roxx 552 kg heavier than the Jimny, which is a huge disadvantage when it comes to difficult off-roading.
However, it also has to be noted that heavier off-road vehicles have some advantages. The main highlights of heavier off-road vehicles are that they offer better stability and increased traction due to their weight.
