Maruti Suzuki’s first electric vehicle for the Indian market, the eVitara, was showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo a few weeks ago. The electric SUV will be officially launched in the first half of 2025 and will be sold via Nexa dealerships. Display units of the eVitara have started arriving at dealerships. Suzuki has been releasing videos of the upcoming EV on the internet. Here, we have one such video where we see the electric SUV showcasing its off-road capabilities.

Watch on YouTube

The video has been shared by Suzuki Global on their YouTube channel. In this video, we see two Maruti Suzuki eVitara SUVs on a test track. The video showcases the off-roading capabilities of the eVitara on sand, mud, and uneven surfaces. For those who don’t know, the Maruti Suzuki eVitara is available with a dual-motor setup or an AWD feature.

Suzuki is calling this feature AllGrip-e. This is actually the AWD version for Suzuki EVs. While the international version gets AWD, the Indian version is likely to come with a single-motor version only. Coming back to the video, we see the Maruti Suzuki eVitara being driven on sandy tracks, tracks with cobblestones, and uneven surfaces.

This is done to test the suspension articulation and capabilities of the SUV. The suspension is put to the test, as is the performance of the dual-motor setup. The Maruti Suzuki eVitara has a ground clearance of 180 mm, which is suitable for minor off-roading. However, we would not recommend hardcore off-roading with it, as there is a chance that the SUV might get beached.

We see the SUV drive over loose sand without getting stuck. As this is an EV, it has the advantage of instant torque and less power loss. This is probably what helped the SUV clear the obstacle without getting stuck. As mentioned above, there is a possibility that India might not get the AWD version.

The eVitara is built on the HEARTECT-e platform, a skateboard platform specifically designed for EVs. The SUV features unique Y-shaped LED DRLs and LED headlamps. It is packed with modern features and will compete against the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric and the upcoming Harrier.ev in the segment.

The Maruti Suzuki eVitara also gets an all-new cabin, which differs from any Suzuki model currently available for sale in India. The interior includes square-shaped AC vents with silver outlines, a twin-deck floating-type center console with storage underneath, a rotary gear knob, an electric sunroof, a floating-type touchscreen infotainment system, and a fully digital instrument cluster.

The steering wheel on the eVitara is a new unit with a flat bottom. The eVitara offers features such as drive modes (Sport, Eco, and Normal), ventilated front seats with 10-way electric adjustments for the driver’s seat, seven airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels, and Level 2 ADAS.

The Suzuki eVitara is offered with a 49 kWh battery pack and a 61 kWh battery pack option. The AWD version seen here is probably powered by the 61 kWh battery pack. Details like the driving range and price of the upcoming electric SUV will be revealed in the coming months.
