India’s First Maruti Omni Electric Is Also A Pick Up Truck (Video)

Maruti Suzuki has not officially revealed any plans to launch the electric version of its popular but discontinued Omni minivan. However, recently, a video has been shared online in which a young boy, along with his college mates, has created a very unique-looking Omni electric. This particular vehicle has been made from scratch using an old Omni, and the cost of this entire vehicle is less than the price of a new mid-range motorcycle.
The video showing the detailed walkaround of this unique Maruti Suzuki Omni electric van has been shared on YouTube by Vehicle Verse on their channel. It starts off with the host mentioning that this particular electric vehicle is based on an old Maruti Omni, which was in an extremely dilapidated condition. Following this introduction, the host then starts talking about the exterior design of this vehicle.
He first shows the front end of this Omni electric and mentions that he has given it a completely new design. It gets round LED headlights with upper and lower beams and round LED DRLs. It also gets a custom-made front grille, which also has a custom Batman-inspired logo. In addition to these, there are also two small pod lights on the front.
The host highlights that they had to make a custom front bumper as well, which houses the LED DRLs on the bottom. He states that they also double as turn indicators. Other additions include dual window wipers and amber lights inside the grille. Following this, the vlogger then shows the side profile of this Omni electric.
He starts by mentioning that he has painted the wheels of the car in black and has added a silver wheel cover. Due to this, it looks like it has been given alloy wheels. Apart from this, the vehicle also gets custom-made side skirts, which reduce the ground clearance a little but provide it with a more lowered appearance, which looks very sporty.
The doors also get custom decals finished in red, and combined with the matte black paint job, they look amazing. Next up, the vlogger talks about the biggest highlight of this vehicle, which is its open rear seats. He mentions that he chopped off the roof of the original Omni and has given it long seats wrapped in black and red leather, which adds a unique touch.
After this, he moves to the rear of this Omni and shows the custom LED taillights and the place to access the rear seating area. He mentions that additional LED lights have been added on the top of the vehicle, which act as brake lights and turn indicators. The vlogger also states that it is a 10-seater vehicle and can be used inside the premises of a resort or college for short travels.
Following the exterior walkaround, the vlogger then shows the interior of this car. He states that he has made a custom dashboard and has also added an Android player, MOMO steering wheel, custom red and black leather seats, roof liner, and a digital instrument gauge cluster, which provides details about the battery percentage, speed, and other information.
The vehicle also gets speakers and an amplifier. Finally, he talks about the powertrain of the vehicle and mentions that it gets a 2.5 kW electric motor, which can be run in two modes—high and low. The higher mode provides a higher top speed, while the lower mode provides more torque. As for the range, it is 90 km, and it has a top speed of 45 kmph. He also shows the battery management system.
Coming to the pricing details of this vehicle, the vlogger highlights the entire cost. He explains that the bodywork cost Rs 40,000, and the electric drivetrain’s price was Rs 60,000. The pricing of the battery pack was Rs 80,000, and the paint job was Rs 15,000. Including all the other costs, the total price of this build is under Rs 2.5 lakh.
