Maruti launched the all-new Victoris mid-size SUV in the market last week. A detailed review of the Victoris is also available on our website. The Victoris has started reaching dealerships, and we have also started seeing videos of the lower variants of the SUV. Recently, we came across a video from Gurgaon where a Maruti Victoris SUV, driven by a customer during a test drive, was involved in an accident. How did the SUV perform? Let’s watch the video and find out.

The video has been circulating on various social media platforms, and the one seen here is from Reddit. As per the post, the accident happened in Alipur, Gurgaon, near the Pasco Nexa dealership. The post mentions that the accident happened during a customer test drive session. A tempo in front of the Maruti Victoris suddenly applied brakes, and the car rear-ended the tempo.

In the video, it looks like the Victoris was being driven at high speed and the customer wasn’t prepared for this. The front and left side of the SUV are what got damaged in the crash. While the post says that the SUV had crashed into a tempo, we do not see the other vehicle anywhere in this video.

It looks like the truck or tempo driver might have fled the spot after the crash. The front of the Victoris is damaged. The bumper, left-side headlamp, grille, bonnet, and front fender are all damaged. It looks like the side profile of the SUV was also damaged in the crash. The door panels and co-passenger side window claddings are all damaged too.

The curtain airbags and the driver and co-driver airbags deployed on time. It is not clear if it was the customer’s fault or the tempo/truck driver’s. The Maruti Suzuki Victoris is actually an SUV that has scored 5-star ratings at both Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP. The accident video that has now surfaced online can be used as a real-world test that shows how sturdy the new Victoris is.

While the bonnet, fender, and bumper absorbed the impact, the pillars of the SUV stayed intact. Even the doors of the SUV did not cave in too much. It is once again a reminder that the skin of the SUV is made of metal sheets, and these sheets will have flex on them. They are designed in such a manner, and the build quality of any vehicle cannot be determined on the basis of flex in the sheet metal. It is actually the structure under the skin that does the job of keeping the cabin and the occupants in it safe.

Why Did ADAS Not Work?

The Maruti Victoris is a feature-loaded SUV. In fact, it gets more features than the Maruti Grand Vitara. It gets Level 2 ADAS, and if you are wondering why the Auto Emergency Braking didn’t work in this case, it is because the car seen here is the strong hybrid version.

The Level 2 ADAS is a feature that Maruti is currently offering only with the mild-hybrid ZXI+ and ZXI+(O) variants, which come with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This has been intentionally done to ensure that the price of the top-end variant of the Victoris doesn’t go over the Nexa, which is offered as a premium SUV via Nexa dealerships.
