When a luxury car or SUV is involved in a crash, the repairs can be very expensive. If you own luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz and BMW, you'll know that even the smallest denting works at the dealer can cost you a lot. However, premium car garages can often get the work done at a much lesser cost, using parts from third-party vendors. This can be very useful for customers who are budget-conscious. A video shared on the YouTube channel Tinkr India shows how a Mercedes-Benz E-Class involved in a crash was converted into an AMG look-alike by an Indian mechanic.

The owner of this car reportedly faced issues with insurance claims after the crash. As the video opens, we see the extent of damage that the crash caused to the E-Class. The donor car was a regular E Class. It had dents and damage on both the front and rear ends. The bumpers, tailgate and hood took dents and tears in the crash.

The customer initially approached the brand for an estimate of the repair costs. The authorized service center quoted around Rs 30 lakh. This was, obviously high. It would have still been okay if the insurance would cover this.

The current owner of this car had bought it from the used car market. At the time of purchase, however, he did not update the insurance with his name and details. The RC was transferred without any issues. This meant that his claim would be rejected by the insurer as there was a mismatch between the credentials on the vehicle RC and insurance. This put the owner in a tricky situation.

The only way for him to salvage his car now was to get the repairs done on a budget and without compromising (much) on quality. This made him approach the mechanic/garage here. He was told that the front bumper would cost Rs 1 lakh, and another Rs 80,000 will be charged for the rear. These were bearable and he soon greenlit the transformation.

Before we go into the details of this modification, it is important to discuss the biggest mistake from the Mercedes owner here- of not transferring the insurance to his name at the time of purchase. We don't know what exactly happened here, but generally, we cannot do RC transfer without insurance. Maybe during the transfer, previous insurance details were provided to initiate the process.

Considering today's market dynamics, it makes so much sense to invest in a used luxury car than a new one. Many of us might already be considering one. This incident is then a wakeup call to get the insurance and RC both transferred to the new owner's name at the time of purchase. Even the slightest mismatch between the two will lead to claims getting rejected- an absolute nightmare for the vehicle owner.

The garage first stripped the car off the affected parts and did basic fixes to the structure underneath. The stock bonnet was then replaced with a new AMG-spec hood. The radiator and condenser were also replaced with fresh ones.

A new AMG kit was then installed on the car. This includes the iconic Pan Americana grill and sculpted front bumper. At the rear, the tailgate, tail lamps and bumper were all replaced. These were imported from overseas markets. In addition to these, a lot of brackets, panels, and cross bars were replaced as well.

The video also shows how carefully the AMG kit was installed on the car. We would like to appreciate the precision and quality of job done in this case. Some of the parts and panels were sourced from non-OE vendors. The accident had damaged the rear windshield, which the mechanic replaced at his garage. Also, the seatbelt system was 'locked' post-crash and had to be replaced as well.

Finally, the vehicle was taken to the paint booth. The donor car had a shade of Silver. The customer now wanted the finished product to be in White. The colour looks exciting on the AMG-lookalike. This modification likely cost the owner much less than what it would have if he were to use all OE parts. In the final few minutes of the video, we see the car getting delivered to the owner.
