Buying a luxury car is a dream of many people, and a lot of people who cannot buy it brand new opt for a used example. Over the years, we have seen many used car buyers sharing how great their experience was, but there are many people who have also shared their used car buying nightmares. Recently, one such Mercedes-Benz E-Class owner shared how he lost Rs 14 lakh on his used luxury sedan in just a span of 11 months.
This video podcast, in which the owner explains how he lost Rs 14 lakh on a used Mercedes E-Class, has been shared on YouTube by Pranay Kapoor on their channel. In this podcast, they start off by talking about their passion for cars and their love for luxury cars. While talking on this topic, the owner shared how he fell in love with the E-Class and why he wanted to buy that specific car.
The owner in the podcast explained that back in 2014, when Mercedes-Benz launched the long-wheelbase E-Class in India, their family could not afford to buy that sedan. However, over the years, he managed to save enough money to afford a used example. He added that he specifically wanted the long-wheel version in black color, so he started his search in Delhi.
Following this, he mentions that he reached out to one of the top three used car dealers in Delhi and visited their showroom, after which he saw this particular car finished in black color. He then sat inside the vehicle and instantly noted that the rear seat of this sedan is one of the best places to be in.
Next up, the owner mentioned that there were many red flags in the purchase journey, which he at the time ignored due to his love for this Mercedes-Benz E-Class. He started by stating that when he first asked the used car dealer to provide details about the previous owner of this car, the dealership employee started giving very vague answers. He then added that the vehicle was originally from West Bengal.
After this, the owner asked the dealership for a test drive. However, initially, his request was denied, but when he confirmed that he was a serious buyer and would be buying the vehicle, he was given the test drive.
During the drive, the owner stated that he did not find any major issues, as the seats were comfortable, there was no noise from the suspension, and there were no creaking or unwanted noises in the cabin.
However, when he requested the dealership to let him take the vehicle to the authorised Mercedes-Benz dealership for a check, the dealership shot down this idea and stated that they would inflate the work required estimates.
So the owner did not take the vehicle, and after one and a half hours of negotiations, he finalized the car. He explained that the vehicle, which was from West Bengal, was being offered for Rs 40 lakh with transferred documents. However, after negotiating, he was able to get it for Rs 36 lakh.
Following this buying experience, the owner highlighted that there were a number of issues that came up during the ownership. Of these, the major one was a smell that came inside the cabin.
He initially thought that it might be a new car smell. However, upon getting it checked from a workshop, it was found that all the components of the air conditioning system were drenched in oil.
This repair cost him around Rs 2.5 lakh. Also, the vehicle's key was continuously getting rejected and disconnected, which also caused inconvenience. Apart from these, there were a ton of other issues that tarnished the overall ownership experience.
The owner then also found out the vehicle was involved in a major crash, as the sunroof shade of his vehicle was different from the rest of the interior.
As a result of all of these issues, the owner then sold it back to the dealership from which he bought this sedan. He then mentioned that he sold the vehicle for Rs 25 lakh, and in total, he took a loss of Rs 14 lakh in just 11 months. Following the sale of this 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the owner bought himself a brand-new Toyota Innova Hycross.
