MG’s newest product- the Windsor EV- is already a success for the brand. It has become the EV that gathered the most number of bookings. In October, it even dethroned the Nexon EV to become India’s best-selling electric vehicle. It accounted for more than 30% of the net EV sales. So, why is the Windsor EV so popular? Well, we’d say that it is a good product with a proper VFM proposition. But, what do the owners say? A recent YouTube video posted on the channel ‘Walk with Neff‘ shows an owner explaining why he bought the Windsor.

The Windsor comes in three variants – Excite, Exclusive, and Essence. The video shows the base-spec. The owner, Sreekumar, works in sales, and the same demands him to travel extensively on a daily basis. Before buying the Windsor, he used to own a Figo 1.5.

He considered the Tata Nexon EV, Curvv EV, Punch EV, Citroen e-C3, and even the MG Comet before finally arriving at the Windsor. He was keen on filtering out the most Value For Money (VFM) product that fits his set use case. He found the Curvv.EV and Nexon.EV to be the closest competitors of the Windsor.

The reason for switching is the cost-effectiveness of the CUV. The on-road price stands at 14.8 lakh, in Kochi. Plus, the operational costs are minimal as all that would need to be changed are the consumables. This customer did not go for the BAAS model of ownership, as he finds it a bit too complicated for his liking. He says the BAAS model had Bajaj Finance, Hero Fincorp, Vidyut etc as the available financiers.

The price too played a key role in making him land on the Windsor. He was also particular about having a proper cabin and luggage room. In dimensions, it is comparable to the like of Hyundai Creta. The Windsor stands 4,295 mm in length, 2126 mm in width and 1677 mm in height. The Creta, on the other hand, is 4330mm long, 1790mm wide and 1635mm tall. Yes, the Windsor is considerably wider than the Hyundai. The boot capacity is 604 litres.

This owner seems to be happy with the range and charging. MG claims the vehicle delivers around 332 km per charge. This owner says he has achieved 280-290 km per charge. The vehicle comes with a 38 kWh battery pack. The electric motor produces 136 PS and 200 Nm of torque. The suspension is neither too soft nor too stiff. The owner says it feels more like an SUV in the way it is sprung.

MG offers a free AC fast charger on the top-spec alone. Sreekumar says he is happy with the charging time offered by the AC charger and prefers to charge the vehicle mostly at home. The 3.3 kW charger takes 13.8 hours for a full charge. He also finds the drive modes and strong regen support to be extremely useful.

The host then shows the interior of the car. In the base-variant, the cabin gets fabric seats. The top-spec gets plush-looking leatherette seats with quilted patterns on them. While those might look classy and cosy, heat management can be a concern. The top-spec comes with a 15.4-inch touchscreen while the base gets a 10.25-inch screen. The audio system has six speakers.

In a nutshell, this owner seems to be extremely happy and content with his new Windsor EV. The electric CUV fits incredibly into his use case and preferences.
