MG Windsor Sets Record: Leh To Kanyakumari In 83 Hours With Just 20 Charging Stops

The MG Windsor has completed a 3,757-kilometre journey from Leh to Kanyakumari in 83 hours and 43 minutes, becoming the first electric vehicle to traverse this route. The run has been recognised by both the India Book of Records and the Asia Book of Records.
The endurance run was carried out by Mountain Goat, a team of motorsports professionals, who drove the Windsor through some of the most demanding terrain in the country. The route began in Ladakh's high-altitude, sub-zero landscape and ended at the southern tip of the peninsula, passing through very different road and weather conditions along the way.
For an electric vehicle, that meant dealing with steep climbs, thin air, changing temperatures and varied traffic patterns.
What makes this achievement stand out is not only the distance covered but the way the team managed charging. The Windsor required only 20 charging stops across the entire 3,757 kilometre journey. The crew used the e-Hub by MG app to locate charging points, which provides access to more than 13,000 EV chargers across the country through tie-ups with 36 charge point operators.
The Windsor is powered by a 52.9 kWh lithium-ion battery that delivers a certified range of up to 449 kilometres per charge. It supports fast charging, which allowed the team to plan short and efficient halts across the growing highway charging network. For buyers, the takeaway is that the car can cover serious distance when driven with a plan and when public chargers are used smartly.
The company is using this run to back up its "EV Sahi Hai" campaign, which is aimed at reducing range anxiety. For prospective EV buyers who worry about being stranded without a charging point, the Windsor's 20 stop north-to-south run is being presented as a real-world example that charging infrastructure exists on key routes and that range is no longer the limiting factor it once was.
This record comes soon after another milestone for the Windsor. Earlier this month, JSW MG Motor announced that the vehicle had crossed 50,000 sales in a little over 400 days since deliveries began in October 2024. That makes it the fastest four wheeler EV to reach this mark in the country. According to the company, the model has averaged five units sold every hour since launch.
The Windsor was launched in September 2024 and quickly became one of the strong players in the mass-market EV segment. It recorded over 15,000 bookings within 24 hours of launch. A key factor behind that response was the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) pricing model, which starts at Rs 9.99 lakh plus Rs 3.9 per kilometre. By separating the cost of the car and the battery usage, MG lowered the entry price for buyers who were unsure about paying upfront for a large battery pack.
Vinay Raina, Chief Commercial Officer at JSW MG Motor India, said the Leh to Kanyakumari run shows that EVs are ready for mainstream long-distance travel. He said the drive highlights the Windsor's reliability and performance across some of the most challenging terrains.
In May 2025, MG introduced the Windsor PRO variant with an extended battery pack to sit above the standard model. A limited-edition anniversary special called the Windsor Inspire was also launched, unveiled by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari at his residence.
The Windsor features what MG calls an "AeroGlide" design and comes with "Aero Lounge" seats that recline up to 135 degrees. Inside, a 15.6 inch GRANDVIEW touch display on the centre console manages infotainment and vehicle controls. With the latest record run added to its list of talking points, MG is positioning the Windsor as an EV that can handle daily use and long-distance drives.
