Modified Mahindra Thar Diesel With Water Meth Injection Makes Over 200 Bhp [Video]

When you think of a modified Mahindra Thar, what comes to your mind? An off-roader built with massive all-terrain tyres and metal bumpers, or a pavement princess with large 21-inch alloy wheels and a Wrangler grille, right? Well, this particular Mahindra Thar that we recently came across has been modified not for looks but for sheer performance on and off the road. How is that, you may ask? Well, this one gets a stage 2 tune, an AEM Water Meth injection, and a bunch of other mods. And all of this gives it over 200 Bhp of peak power, and 465 Nm of peak torque.
The video showing this Mahindra Thar three-door with a number of performance mods has been shared on Instagram by The Drivers Hub on their channel. It starts off with the host mentioning that this modified Thar is not your normal modded Thar. Rather, this one runs an AEM Water Meth injection system.
Following this, he starts listing the performance mods done on this Thar. He starts by opening the bonnet of the SUV and mentioning that it has been stage 2 tuned by Code6 Tuners, which is one of the most popular tuning companies in India. He then adds that it also gets a BMC drop-in air filter, a full-system exhaust, and an AEM Water Meth injection kit in the boot.
The host then states that as part of the modifications, the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter), AdBlue, and the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) systems of this SUV have been removed as well. Soon after this, he starts the SUV and revs it to show how loud and unique it sounds compared to a normal Thar diesel.
As for the power figures with these mods, he adds that it makes 206 bhp and 465 Nm of torque, which is very impressive for a vehicle of this type. The host also highlights that these figures are dyno-verified. He then adds that it has been given a number of off-road modifications as well.
These include a complete Ironman 4X4 suspension system, which adds stronger components, enhancing the off-road capabilities of this SUV. It also sits on Maxxis Bravo 285/60 all-terrain tyres and a set of aftermarket alloy wheels. Lastly, this SUV also gets an A-pillar integrated snorkel.
For those who may not be aware of what a water meth injection system is, it is a performance upgrade commonly used in turbocharged, supercharged, and high-compression engines. It drastically improves power output and efficiency. This system injects a fine mist of water and methanol (or a water-methanol mix) into the intake air stream or directly into the combustion chamber.
What happens is that the water mixed with methanol lowers the intake air temperatures (IATs) and makes the air denser, which improves combustion. Also, the methanol in the mixture acts like a high-octane fuel, which makes the engine run at more aggressive ignition timing.
A mixture of water and methanol in a 50:50 ratio is added to the vehicle’s water meth injection system, and it then helps in increasing the power of the vehicle. It has to be mentioned that such systems are not legal in India. However, there are still a lot of enthusiasts who tweak the engine and increase the power as they make the cars more fun to drive.
