Monkey Jumps On A Car With Panoramic Sunroof And Shatters It [Video]

One premium feature that has become immensely popular in India in the last few years is the sunroof. It all started with single-pane electric sunroofs, and now we have panoramic sunroofs, with some cars even getting fixed glass roofs as well. Although sunroofs do not compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle, they are fragile. Recently, a video showing how the panoramic sunroof of one such modern vehicle was shattered by a monkey has been shared online.
This video of a monkey destroying a sunroof has been shared on X. It comes courtesy of Dr. Ahtesham Siddiqui. In this short clip, which is CCTV footage, we can note that a vehicle with a panoramic sunroof is parked on the side of a busy road. Suddenly, a monkey jumps on the rear portion of the sunroof.
Unfortunately, due to the monkey jumping on it from a decent height, it completely shatters the rear part of the panoramic sunroof. Soon after, the monkey climbs out of the cabin and runs away. Most likely, the monkey did not suffer any injury as it walked away very calmly.
As per the reports, this incident took place in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. From the video, we can note that just after the monkey jumped on the sunroof and shattered it, all the people on the road, including a few motorists, started looking at the vehicle.
As mentioned above, and as can also be noted from the video, the monkey jumped on the rear portion of the panoramic sunroof. So, it only managed to shatter half of the sunroof. However, when it comes to the replacement, the company will have to replace the entire panoramic sunroof of this vehicle.
At the moment, the exact make and model of this particular vehicle are unknown. However, a panoramic sunroof replacement in mass-market cars can cost anywhere between Rs 30,000 to Rs 90,000. Most likely, in this scenario, the insurance company will pay for the replacement.
The above incident raises an important question: should Indian car buyers purchase vehicles with a sunroof or not? Well, the answer to this is very subjective. A lot of people love cars with sunroofs as it gives them a premium appeal. However, many people also believe that it is a totally unnecessary feature with no real use case in a country like India.
Earlier, sunroofs were more commonly seen in European and American vehicles as people in those countries used them to enjoy the weather. However, India generally experiences extreme weather, with summers reaching above 40°C and winters being very cold. Also, as we all know, there is no real use for sunroofs during the monsoon.
So, it again boils down to personal preference. Whether you should buy a vehicle with a sunroof or not is totally up to you. What we can say is that if your vehicle does not have a sunroof, you can be safe from incidents like the one above. However, it should be noted that the chances of this happening again are very slim.
