When we think of successful businessmen and multi-millionaires, we often imagine them travelling in luxury cars and SUVs, mostly from foreign brands. Motilal Oswal, a juggernaut in the financial services sector, is, however, an exception. The co-founder of Motilal Oswal Financial Services Limited (MSOL), has now added a brand-new Mahindra XUV700 SUV to his garage. The billionaire shared a picture of the new SUV on his X (previously Twitter) handle, claiming that he is 'fully desi' now. He also owns a Tata Safari Dark Edition, which he acquired in 2024.

The X-post shows the XUV700 parked in his parking lot. It is finished in the Dazzling Silver shade. The number plate has been blurred. The caption reads 'I’m fully Desi now—no more foreign luxuries! Proud to use mostly Indian products. As I mentioned earlier, my next favourite car Mahindra.'

Oswal had previously shared pictures of him taking delivery of the Safari Dark Edition. For the Mahindra, however, just a picture of the vehicle has surfaced.

Mahindra offers the XUV in four broad trims- AX5 S, AX5, AX7 and AX7 L. In addition to these, an 'Ebony edition' is also on sale, which is based on the AX7 and AX7 trims. It is unclear which of these has reached Oswal's garage. It is likely the fully packed AX7 L.

The top-spec comes equipped with the likes of a 12-speaker sound system, ventilated front seats, 6-way powered driver’s seat with a memory function, dual-zone climate control, an electronic parking brake, 360-degree camera, Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and more. The vehicle in this picture seems to be equipped with ADAS and this makes us assume that it is the higher variant. For more perspective, the AX7L has an ex-showroom price of Rs 24.99 lakh.

The SUV also offers the choice of petrol and diesel engines (2.0 turbo petrol and 2.2L diesel) and manual and automatic transmissions. We don't know the exact powertrain details of Oswal's SUV.

Oswal's choice of Indian-made products over foreign luxury cars and SUVs has already caught the attention of many. The X post also mentions the official handle of Anand Mahindra. Netizens are eagerly waiting for the Mahindra bossman to show up with a comment or reshare.

Post-pandemic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been actively pushing for economic nationalism. He has urged citizens and leaders to adopt the "vocal for local" way and switch to and promote locally manufactured products, thereby contributing to the national economy. Aligning with this, Oswal announced a complete shift in his lifestyle. He said that he would stop using foreign products when it comes to cars, watches and other luxury goods, and replace them with made-in-India alternatives.

Motilal Oswal's Tata Safari Dark Edition

Oswal acquired a brand-new Safari Dark Edition in 2024, as part of this revised approach. The SUV has an ex-showroom price of Rs 26.99 lakh. This is microscopic compared to Oswal's estimated net worth of over 200 Crore USD. The purchase was a way of setting an example for the larger public to 'go desi'. Back then he had explicitly mentioned that his next purchase would be the Mahindra.

The Dark edition stands out with its Oberon Black exterior paint. The grille, headlamps, tail lamps, and wheels are all dark-themed. Even the cabin features a dark colour scheme and comes with features like a 10.25-inch full-TFT instrument console, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, electronically-adjustable and ventilated front seats, wireless charger, 10-speaker JBL audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, ambient lighting, air purifier and Level 2 ADAS.

Under its hood is the Stellantis-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine which produces 170 PS and 350 Nm. Both manual and automatic transmissions are on offer. The vehicle comes packed with safety features and even scored an impressive five-star safety rating in both Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP crash tests.
