This Auto Driver In Mumbai Earns Rs. 5-8 Lakh Per Month: Crazy Business Model

We all come across reports about the sons and daughters of auto rickshaw drivers studying hard and cracking civil service examinations. In most stories, the parent who drives an auto works hard to make ends meet. However, we have now come across a social media post that might make you envy the life of an auto driver.
Well, there is an auto driver in Mumbai who is actually making more than many senior-level employees in corporates. In fact, he is making anywhere around Rs 5–8 lakh every month. How? Let’s find out.
We came to know about this auto driver from a social media post on LinkedIn. The story was posted by Rahul Rupani, who is working as a product leader with Lenskart. If you are under the impression that the auto driver works hard and does multiple shifts to make this kind of money, you are wrong.
He just had a great idea and happened to be at the right spot at the right time. Rahul was outside the US Consulate in Mumbai for his visa appointment. He was carrying a bag with him, and the security stopped him at the gate. The security told him that he could not take the bag inside. The worst part was that the security guard didn’t offer any solution.
There were no lockers, storerooms, nothing to keep his belongings. That’s when he saw an auto driver waving at him. He told Rahul, “Sir, bag de do. Safe rakhunga, mera roz ka hai. ₹1,000 charge hai.” (Sir, give me your bag. I will keep it safe. I do it on a daily basis. Will charge ₹1,000). Rahul wasn’t sure, but he had no choice.
That’s when he realised the brilliant business that the auto driver is running outside the US Consulate. He spoke to the person to understand how this system works. The driver parks the auto right outside the consulate and offers his services to people who visit, at Rs 1,000 per customer. He mentioned that he gets around 20–30 customers every day.
If you do the math, he makes around Rs 20,000–Rs 30,000 every day, which is around Rs 5–8 lakh per month. He makes this money without even actually driving the auto!
This is actually a brilliant idea. The post mentions that, as the auto driver cannot keep so many bags inside the auto at the same time, he has partnered with a local police officer and takes these bags to a locker space. This way, he doesn’t have to worry about the legality, and it is also secure and less of a hassle for him.
The post mentions that while people visiting the US Consulate are trying hard to go abroad for a better living standard and pay, this auto driver has managed to come up with an ingenious idea where he doesn’t even have to ride the auto for even a kilometre and still makes money. No investors, no funding, and no tech.
What do you think of this auto driver? We’re pretty sure he’s not the only one enjoying a life like this in Mumbai or other parts of the country.
