Earlier in January 2024, Kia India officially launched the facelifted iteration of the Sonet sub-compact SUV. However, since then, its main rivals, like the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, and others, have seen major changes. Due to this, the Kia Sonet is now in desperate need of a generation change. At the moment, whether Kia has started working on the new generation Sonet or not has not been revealed. However, we have got ourselves a rendering that shows how Kia could design the next generation of the Sonet.

This image rendering of the next-generation Kia Sonet has been shared on Facebook by JK Autoyas on their page. In this image, we can note that this particular Sonet looks nothing like the current generation model. It has been completely revamped and boasts a brand-new exterior design. At the front, we can note that it gets an all-new front fascia, which looks a lot more modern.

Front-end design

To those in the know-how, this front end may remind them of the freshly unveiled Maruti Suzuki eVitara. Now, coming back to the details of this rendered version of the new Sonet, it has been given a new and much cleaner-looking front grille. Instead of the large tiger-nose grille with cluttered elements, this SUV gets a Syros-like front grille, resembling its new sibling.

The air intakes have been placed lower on the front bumper, surrounded by a black finish. There is also an ADAS Level 2 radar in the middle of the lower section of this bumper. Coming to the main highlight of this front end, this SUV gets a brand-new set of LED headlights. There are inverted L-shaped LED DRLs, and the main headlight units feature a unique projector setup.

Side profile

Now, moving to the side profile, we can note that this new-generation Kia Sonet gets chunky cladding on the sides, which starts all the way from the front bumper. There are also some large 5-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels that add a sporty touch to this SUV. The silhouette of this SUV has also been rounded off a little, which is the opposite of the current model. Unfortunately, there is no rendering that shows the rear portion of the SUV.

Will Kia officially launch this version of the Sonet?

Well, as mentioned above, this is not an official render. Also, it is not based on any test mule that has been spotted. So, it is unlikely that Kia will launch a Sonet that looks like this. However, most likely, in the coming period, Kia will commence the development of this SUV as most of its competitors have already been given significant upgrades.

Kia is working on the Sonet EV

Although Kia may not be launching the above-rendered iteration of the Sonet, it must be mentioned that the company has started working on the development of the Sonet EV in India. Back in October of last year, a fully camouflaged Sonet was seen being driven on public roads. It was then reported that it is the EV version of this sub-compact SUV.

At the moment, there are no sources that have shared any details about the electric drivetrain that will be powering the Sonet EV. However, most likely, it will be launched with a front-axle-mounted electric motor and come mated to a battery pack offering a range of 450 km, like its rivals, the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400 EV.
