After Innovas And Fortuners, 10 Year-Old Range Rovers Are Getting ‘Old Shape To New Shape’ Treatment

So far, we have seen old-to-new generation conversions on Toyota Innovas, Fortuners, BMWs, Mercedes, and a lot of other cars. However, taking things up a notch, auto body shops in India are now starting to convert older generation Range Rovers into newer shape models. Yes, you heard that right. Recently, we came across a video that shows an old Range Rover Vogue being converted into a newer generation Range Rover Vogue.

2010-2022 Range Rover Vogue to 2022

This particular video has been shared on Instagram by Arsalan Shaikh 07 on their page. It starts with a mechanic working on the rear portion of an older generation Range Rover Vogue. We can see that he was custom fabricating the rear left structural component to fit the new rear bumper.

Following this, the video shows that the mechanic had also cut out the rear quarter panel to fit the new LED taillights. After the fabrication, the Range Rover can be seen fitted with the new shape rear bumper. Also, the front bonnet, new grille, bumper, and LED headlights were on the car for test fitment.

The video then shows the car getting the bodywork done before painting. We can see that the shop had sprayed the primer on the car’s complete body, including the front and rear bumpers. After this, the video shows it fully painted in the same pearlescent white color.

Completed Old-to-New Range Rover Conversion

Finally, after all of the reassembly, the video shows this converted Range Rover coming out of the shop. Before this, it shows the mirror with a puddle lamp. We can also see that all the new LED headlights and taillights, which are most likely aftermarket, were working.

After this, the car is taken out on public roads. We can note that although the work appears to be good, those who know about cars can easily recognize that this is a conversion job. This is because the newer generation Range Rovers are a lot longer than this generation model.

This particular model is a 2010 Range Rover Vogue S 3.6. It came equipped with an LR-TDV8 diesel engine that generates a maximum power of 271 bhp. At the time, this was one of the most sought-after Range Rovers. However, in 2024 it now looks outdated, and that is why this conversion to the 2022 model has been done.

Is This Old-to-New Conversion Legal?

For those who may be wondering if such old-to-new conversion jobs are legal, the short answer is no. Such conversions, which completely alter the appearance of a car from old to new, are illegal according to the Motor Vehicle Laws of India. For that matter, any changes to the exterior of the vehicle are illegal in nature.

Why Do People Still Do It?

Now, you might also have another question in mind: if it is illegal to convert old cars into new ones, why do people still do it? Well, the answer is that most people who are not well-versed with cars cannot distinguish old-to-new conversions. In this way, owners can change the appearance of their old cars to new ones without having to sell and buy new, more expensive models.
