Paytm CEO Finally Brings Home A Tesla Model Y In Gurgaon

Finally, after 9 years of booking a Tesla (which was cancelled), the Founder and CEO of Paytm, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, has taken delivery of his first ever Tesla electric car. Recently, an image of Sharma taking delivery of his brand-new Tesla Model Y has been shared online. Prior to him, Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik and cricketer Rohit Sharma have already taken delivery of their Tesla Model Ys.
The image of the Paytm CEO with his new Tesla Model Y has been shared on X by Tesla_India on their page. In this image, Vijay Shekhar Sharma can be seen extremely excited while taking delivery of his brand-new electric SUV. He has taken delivery of his Model Y from a Tesla dealership which is located in Aerocity at Worldmark 3.
For those who may not be aware, back in 2016, Tesla Inc. started taking reservations for the Model 3, which is its smallest electric offering in India. At the time, the booking amount was $1,000 or around Rs 70,000 (at the time). During this time, Vijay Shekhar Sharma was the first person to book the Model 3.
In addition to the Paytm CEO, Mahesh Murthy, a venture capitalist, Vishal Gondal, founder of GOQii, and Sujayath Ali, co-founder of Voonik, also booked the Tesla Model 3. However, what happened later was that Tesla deferred the launch indefinitely, which disappointed a lot of the buyers who reserved it. The company, however, returned the booking amount to all of those who cancelled after getting frustrated.
Finally, after keeping everyone waiting for so long, Tesla launched its Model Y SUV in India. The company scrapped the plan of bringing the Model 3 and instead brought the latest generation of the Model Y. All of the Tesla Model Ys are currently being imported from China as completely built units. Initially, Tesla launched its first dealership in India in Mumbai, and it was then followed by a dealership in Delhi, and it is also coming to Gurugram as well.
Following the launch of the Tesla Model Y in India, the first unit of this luxury electric SUV was bought by none other than the Maharashtra Transport Minister, Pratap Sarnaik. The minister, during the delivery event, highlighted that he has bought the Model Y for his grandson. The color chosen by Sarnaik is the Pearl White Multi-Coat, which costs Rs 95,000 extra.
Additionally, the former Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has also bought himself a brand-new Tesla Model Y as well. He recently took delivery of his electric SUV, finished in the shade of Stealth Grey. As for the registration number, he has chosen “MH 01 FB 3015,” which is a nod to his kids’ birthdays — his daughter Samaira was born on December 30th and his son Ahaan on November 15th, thus 3015.
The Tesla Model Y starts at Rs 59.89 lakh for the RWD variant and goes up to Rs 67.89 lakh for the Long Range RWD variant. The standard variant offers a 500 km range, while the Long Range model extends that to 622 km. Both produce 295 horsepower and can sprint from 0–100 kmph in 5.9 seconds.
